Narrator credit appearing under "self" rather than "actor". How can that be fixed?

Our narrator for our documentary A Towering Task: The Story of the Peace Corps is Annette Bening. We have gotten the credit of our film now listed on Annette's page, but our film is listed under the "self" tab rather than "actress" tab, which puts it way down on her page. Is there any way of changing that? (Other actors seem to have documentary narrations listed under the "actor" tab.)

Alana: Since this is a documentary, the use of the "self" description would normally seem more appropriate than an "actress" description. I wouldn't expect Bening to be narrating the film from a fictionalized perspective.

Gromit, I’m not fully sure about that. At least based on the replies from Will from the older thread:

I agree with Will's response in that thread. These words Annette was reading were written by our scriptwriter. Annette is not portraying herself.
And as an independent documentary, it could do wonders for us to have that credit listed up with her regular films rather than buried among talk show appearances in the self section.
Is there any way of appealing to IMDb to consider moving the credit?

Thank you, Will, for explaining. Annette's voice is simply the narrator of the story of the documentary, not a character or a re-enactment. Just a description of events as they unfold. So, it sounds like the credit is banned into the "self" category according to current IMDb policy. And yes, I absolutely agree with you that the credit aligns much more with the actor credit than with the self credit. Will learn to live with where it is, unless IMDb can change its policies around documentary narration. Again, thank you!

Thank you, Ed, for clarifying that, as well!
Hope IMDb will adjust its policies around the narrator credit for documentaries!

Alana, it’s best to wait for the official reply from the IMDb staff. Will answered some questions in the older thread, but this ”Narrator” issue leaves room for interpretation.

No matter what the official reply is, the fact is that IMDb has ”Narrator” credits in both ”acting” and ”him/herself” sections.

Btw Ed. I have only one reply to you personally: Nuts!
