My Reviews Are Getting Cancelled

For the second time now, ive looked at my reviews and the description/comment that I wrote with my review has been deleted by what I can only assume was an IMDB employee. I know the review was initially approved and in circulation as it had 3 "helpful" upvotes.

My post was, among other things critical of the identity politics blended into the movie, hence why, considering the current cultural climate, I am assuming it was a disgruntled progressive taking matters into their own hands.

While my post was critical and perhaps a little cynical it was not abusive, aggressive or in anyway suggesting violence etc.. Id like to get some answers and I think people who use Imdb deserve answers if this is happening.

Im hesitant to copy the review here because Ive no idea if doing so would  start an argument with people who just want to argue etc.. Happy to DM or email an IMDB employee however.

In summary if I am going to get cancelled on IMDB for my reviews, Im wasting my time using the platform, as I am sure many others are. If its a rogue employee, and not endorsed by the company, how will it be addressed.

Hi johhnyboi -

Currently, when a User Review is reported it is reviewed by IMDb staff.

I appreciate your feedback and understand the frustrations you expressed regarding guideline violations where the User Review report form is being manipulated and abused.  We are working on systematic improvements to help address this issue (which is has been widely reported by other User Review contributors) and to help prevent this type of ongoing reporting abuse.

In the meantime, I have passed your comments/suggestions along to the appropriate team for visibility.

Cheers!

Its just dawned on me, imdb probably auto deletes reviews if they are reported by a few people, irrespective of wether the report is a lie or malicious. The system just cant tell the difference. If this is the case, what can be done about this malicious and deceptive abuse of the system by an extreme few.

One pretty good step forward would be stop users from having the ability to delete peoples reviews via malicious reporting or atleast raise the threshold.

Hi johhnyboi -

Can you confirm the related title associated with your User Review and provide the link to your IMDb Activity page?  Our staff can then investigate the status of the review.

Cheers!

Hi johhnyboi -

I have now reinstated your initial User Review for "Top Gun: Maverick" as it did not overtly violate our guidelines; however, I can see that it was likely reported and removed for the few socio/polictical comments.

@Michelle thanks for taking the time to look. Critically, was it reported then removed by an employee or automatically removed when a condition is met, say 5 people report it for the same reason?

As most people have become acutely aware in recent years, manipulating & abusing reporting features has become the bread and butter of online cancel culture.

Id like Imdb to consider this and how to mitigate it going forward, refer to suggestions ive made above.

From what ive seen RT has no report function after the review has been initially cleared, which I think is good. Im also under the impression its really rather easy to report a post. Perhaps if it took a little more effort to do it, i.e send an email people doing it for petty reasons might not bother.

Id also like to see users be notified if their review has been deleted, god knows how many peoples reviews have been cancelled and they are unaware of this. I feel like this is the right thing to do and would perhaps bring more awareness to the issue.
