Missing Departments (Production, Locations, etc)
Yes, it's that topic again. What is the latest on separating out the departments which are lumped into the "other crew" list? It really is a little ridiculous, and disrespectful.
I would like to assume, someone at IMDB has actually worked on a production before, or has some sort of idea of the structure of a crew.
The production department is the main hub of the whole job. So much so, that they are moved to the top of any crew list, just under the producers and directors while the rest follow alphabetically. It is a massive part of a film, which already doesn't receive the credit it deserves in some respect, as people outside of the industry have no idea such a department even exists. The production department is one that contains many different roles, and a lot of people put so much time and effort into the work in this department. Long difficult days, week after week, month after month. Starting before the rest of the crew and finishing after. Sometimes long after... Yet after all that, we are dropped into the "other crew" section.
And no, I'm not just posting for the sake of Production. You also have departments like Locations in the same place. Locations is a vital department, especially if you've ever worked on a production with many locations! If memory serves, other massive roles like script supervisor etc are also placed in this category.
To be honest, it's a little insulting to those in this position.
I get that it's a lot of code and all that, but surely the longer you wait, the more difficult it gets as more and more credits are added?
Is there any serious plan to fix this, or is this just how it will continue because someone started things off a little wrong in the beginning?
