Maureen Murphy update

Could you explain how actress Maureen Murphy (I know there are more than one, so this is the url https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0614512/) is listed as having died in January 2019, but there is no record anywhere online that I could find of her death, including SAG-AFTRA records, which would presumably have them as she worked on legitimate productions and films. I was wondering what source was provided by whomever made the entry which was accepted by an administrator because I can't find any basis for it.

Hi Rob -

The obituary notice Ed provided would be enough for our editors to verify and list the death date, we also received a different source confirming the date with the initial submission, however, it's our policy not to disclose contribution details with a third party.

In this case, based on the sources we have, we believe the death date listed for Ms. Murphy is accurate.  If you ever encounter a death date on the site that you believe is wrong, please submit a deletion request with your explanation and our editors will be happy to take a look.

"Move on and find your 1940 Maureen with the different middle name." -- Like I said, next time I am at the library I'll capture the url for Maureen Patricia Murphy (born January 20, 1940 to Gladys (nee Norman) and John Murphy) but she is English not American.

"One other took 3 months of 4 contributors looking in their spare time." -- Just thought I'd mention how impressive that is. I had no idea you guys worked so hard. Wish I could join the team to trim and clean-up but I don't have a degree in computer science.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Maureen Murphy (redux).

Just a reminder regarding Maureen Murphy (VII) (1939–2019) that I am positive the dates of birth and death are incorrect because they refer to a different woman of the same name, albeit one who was never an actress, director, SAG and/or AFTRA member, or had anything to do with the film and/or television industries.

This discussion began at: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/maureen-murphy-update but I just observed that an article has been created on Wikipedia (not by me, I stopped editing Wikipedia back in April, 6 months ago) which points to the fact that Maureen Murphy (1939-2019) was a swimmer (sportswoman) -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maureen_Murphy_(swimmer) -- not the relatively unknown actress and daughter of Gladys Norman, who was born January 20, 1940 and is still, as far as is known, alive. Anyway, just wanted to add this new evidence to the record/paper trail.

Yours.

If the images match then that is likely a better source of verification, at least for now. If you find out that this isn't the case then please feel free to submit the data with any sources and our editors will be happy to take a look.

Thanks,
Will

I agree. I don’t think it is the same woman. I find it very hard to believe that the person who was an Olympian swimmer and had a career with IBM would have enough time to also become an established comedian and actress. Both take a number of years to achieve. Further more, if you compare the two pictures, the hair style is similar but is parted on opposite sides. I find it strange that a person would keep the same style but change the side they parted their hair.

Jane Doyle -- Of course it is not the same woman. The same-named woman (born 1939 - died 2019) was American and had no connection to acting or entertainment. The actress (born 20 January 1940) is a Brit! The woman IMDB is confusing Maureen Murphy with appears to be an Aussie comedian known as Mauro Murphy.

Ed -- ya know I like you but you are barking up the wrong tree this time, LOL.

Jane Doyle, I'm not talking about that case, but in cases like that keep in mind that unusual career combinations do happen. For example Erland van Lidth was a character actor, professional opera singer, semi-professional wrestler as well as professional programmer who taught computer programmer in Manhattan Community College.

Hello,

If you check out;

You might find the correct information.

I sincerely hope this clears things up.

@Deagleman Thanks.

I knew the date of birth but they confused this Maureen Murphy with an American woman of the same name who had nothing to do with the entertainment industry. Common enough name, I guess. But Find-a-Grave is wrong as to Mauro's place of birth. She was born in London with her birth registered in Hendon, London, UK (as per https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?r=180060511:0100&d=bmd_1644238129)
