Looking for the right numbers
According to that page: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069658/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_3, Doug Davidson has appeared on 3,512 episodes og The Young and the Restless. According to this one: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069658/fullcredits/?ref_=tt_ql_cl, he has appeared on 3,227 episodes. If I click on Doug Davidson's name, it's written: "Show all 3,511 episodes". Something similar can be said about all the actors of Y&R. Which episode count is the right one?

Depends.
Some of the discrepancy may be caused by the difference between appearing in the episode versus flashback "archive" footage of him appearing in an episode. One such episode is listed on his filmography page.
But why nearly 300 difference between main title (and Name page) versus fullcredits page... not sure. And with so many credits, it's too hard to ruffle through the data for an answer. (BTW, it's 3514, 3229 and 3513 when I checked them just now. I'm surprised he has no 2021 credits, but I haven't watched the show in a long time.)
Also interesting is that the fullcredits page does not appear to sort properly by total number of episodes. As soon as 600+ episodes, you get very strange sequencing. I believe I've raised that issue before, but don't remember whether IMDb shrugged or was investigating.
Ah. Maybe this is the answer to both your question and mine.
Check out
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3714393/
who has 42 Y&R credits on her name page, 40 of which are (uncredited).
On the fullcredits title page, she appears among the 40s, but it lists only 2 episodes.
So I wonder if Doug has about 300 uncredited appearances from the early years.

Hi, Joy Mathys. Neither of the figures is correct. The "3,512" figure is the total number of filmography items corresponding to Doug Davidson with The Young and the Restless, including items with attribute "(uncredited)", "(archive footage)" or "(credit only)", or no attribute at all. Whereas the "3,227" figure is the number out of the 3,512 such items, whereby the attribute "(uncredited)" is present. What we're looking for is the number of such items for which the attribute "(credit only)" is absent, which is 3,462. We may also be interested to know likewise whereby both "(credit only)" and "(archive footage)" are absent, which is 3,461. Still, we don't even know that IMDb's information concerning this soap opera is comprehensive, let alone completely accurate for what is documented.
