Location Managers/Additional Crew situation

Since we now have a Locations Managers section, I have been wondering about some crew members being listed in the Additional Crew section that should be in the Locations Managers section.

"production assistant" and "office production assistant" (an important distinction) certainly belong in the Additional Crew section, but shouldn't "set production assistant" (another important distinction) be in the Location Managers section?

And, also, shouldn't "basecamp manager" be in the Location Managers section?

This may already be policy, but I have been noticing these distinctions in more and more on-screen credits.

IMDb has said before that all production assistants belong in additional crew. I can't see any reason to list "set production assistant" in Location Management as they do not perform 'location management functions".

But... they do.  And this is being acknowledges in on-screen credits.

(I worked as an "office production assistant" on a network TV show for a few months, although my official title was "assistant to the writers."  I was usually only on the set to deliver script changes.)

This whole problem is being acerbated by contributors who submit  occupations that differ from the on-screen credit, often changing or altering the job title to conform to the drop down menu when it is, in fact, an inaccurate occupation.

I have also seem many "assistant" inaccuracies.  "assistant director" is a very different job from "assistant to the director," for example.  An "assistant costume designer" is very different from an "assistant to the costume designer."

The Visual Effects Department is full of these kinds of "changes."  Sometimes, it seems that different visual effects companies even use different job descriptions from each other when the person is probably performing the same job.  This probably not only affects their billing, but their salaries -- and hopes for further employment, acknowledgement and advancement.

I say, trust the on-screen credits.

P.S. (uncredited) credits also pose a problem, since it seems like the contributor is often "creating" a job title that does not accurately reflect the correct participation.

Thank you for doing what you do.  I think that there are only a few of us who are so conscientious about the cast, crew, companies, etc.'s on-screen credits being "accurate."  And, it takes a lot of concentration and time to do this.  I am currently working on just one title that is taking me days, all convoluted since the title was filmed in a country where the names have ALL KINDS of accented characters that need to be carefully monitored and corrected! Sometimes, I just wonder:  What do I care so much about such things?  I love movies, and I just like seeing things be as accurate as possible.

To address the issues you pinpointed, it is correct that "Production Assistant" roles belong under the "Additional Crew" section, we currently have a ticket filed for a clean-up that is currently pending.

"Location Manager" roles include location scouting, location manager, assistant/associate location manager, location coordinators, etc.; essentially roles directly related to location work and not production work.  As such, the role "set production assistant" should be listed under the "Additional Crew" section.

Regarding "Basecamp Manager", as this role primarily supports the production crew, this credit type should be listed under "Additional Crew" verses "Location Management".

I hope this helps clarify.
