listed names of actor/actresses

@Michelle​ I think the point of this thread is not that the policy is what it is, but that the policy is a very bad one and doesn't serve anyone in the long run as it makes the database less useful (apart from that, it goes directly into "aiming to be as easily searchable as possible").

If IMDb keeps aiming "to give professionals more control over how information is presented on their IMDb name pages", it's risking losing customers and contributors* because the database serves less purposes and with that, becomes less useful. In the most extreme scenario, IMDb would simply cease to exist because people have stopped taking it seriously and/or don't find it useful anymore and the professionals have to look elsewhere for control of their information. 

Also, the whole "giving professionals more control over how information is presented on their IMDb name pages" might feel as a slap in the face for those actors who've started out in (soft)porn flick but can't get those credits removed from their name pages. Or those countless professionals who don't want their date of birth listed on their name page because the industry (not the database!) discriminates. 

*for me personally, policy changes like these are part of the reason I wasn't a Top Contributor in 2021, after being one for 17 years.

I've said before and will continue to say that we cannot erase history. We can't pretend something didn't happen just because we don't like it. Try as I might, I can't make 9/11 go away. It happened. No amount of rewriting history will make it go away. Ditto for the whole gender/name thing. If John Doe is unhappy with the baggage that they used to be known as Jane Doe, well, I'm sorry, but it is what it is. They WERE Jane Doe! That *fact* is all over historical records, from school yearbooks to childhood medical records to MOVIE CREDITS. No one's going back and replacing "Jane Doe" with "John Doe" in the credits made when they were still Jane Doe. Nor should anyone do that. It's part of history.

We need to stop being so PC and just accept reality for what it is. I'm sorry Page is uncomfortable having their past hanging around, but it's part of their life story and cannot be edited out. IMDb *should* be a source of factual information. Movies made when Page was known as female and was listed in the credits as Ellen should reflect that on IMDb.

Just picture someone, new to Page's work, who's watching a movie where she was credited as Ellen. They come to IMDb to look up info about the movie, and about Page in general. What happens when they plug "Ellen Page" into the search box? Remember, they're sitting there, perhaps with the movie stopped on the credits, looking at a name that plain as day says "Ellen Page," yet they come up blank on IMDb. That doesn't make sense! They rightfully would assume that someone made a huge mistake, typing in "Elliot" instead of "Ellen"--since they can plainly see Ellen in the credits.

This current policy is just silly--and wrong...
