Hi @plur62 -

Thanks for reporting, it seems that this title may have originally been released in three separate parts over the span of three weeks, as such, these episode titles will need to be moved and updated to be listed n the site as separate standalone film titles.

Before I make the necessary changes, do you have any further information about this title's first release?

@Michelle

Traditionally, film serials are listed as feature films. This of course should have been mentioned in guidelines.

There is some discussion of them here:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/add-episodes-for-vintage-movie-serials/5f4a79828815453dba7fa925

There are lots of them, some of them found here:

https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=serial&ref_=kw_ref_typ&sort=moviemeter,asc&mode=detail&page=1&title_type=movie

From IMDb's old glossary:

Serial

A multipart film that usually screened a chapter each week at a cinema. The story structure usually has each chapter ending with a cliffhanger to ensure the audience would like to watch following chapter at its release. Contrast with series.

On the web: List of serials at the IMDb.

Hi @Peter_pbn -

This is very interesting, thanks for linking the older Idea thread as well.  I wasn't aware of "serials" (guess I need to brush up on my gilded age cinema!); also, seeing the old terminology Glossary makes me nostalgic.

It seems any guideline reference to "serials" is missing from our Help Guides, I have filed a request to include this information.  I will confirm here once any guideline updates have been made live.

Cheers!

@Michelle Welcome back! And thanks for requesting to add information about how to deal with serials in the guide.

I hope IMDb will think about whether or not a new title type is needed for them, as well as perhaps even a new genre. (and yes, I know that strictly speaking, serial is not a genre, just like Short isn't :) )

Hi @plur62 -

In light of the information @Peter_pbn raised, this should be listed as a standalone feature film title on the site with the keyword "serial".  I have now adjusted the title accordingly and the changes should be live on the site shortly.

Thanks again for reporting!
