Launch Announcement: Podcast Title Types

Hi,

We are happy to announce that as of today, we have fully launched a new title types for Podcast series and Podcast episodes.

From today, there is a new option available within our New Title Form ->  https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=title  for Podcast Series

We have also made changes across all IMDb & IMDbPro web and app experiences to ensure that titles of this type have the correct type displayed, and that podcasts are discoverable via search features. For example:-

Team Deakins Podcast -> https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15516934/

Credits for podcasters are displayed appropriate on their pages e.g. on Roger Deakins page -> https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005683/ you see:-

Podcast Series and episodes are discoverable via our Advance Title Search -> Podcast Series/Podcast Episode (Sorted by Popularity Ascending) - IMDb

We have updated the associated submission guide -> https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/submitting-podcasts-commercials-or-music-videos/G75CJL7UUDSWV7U5#

We had previously announced that we would accept Podcasts in this thread (using the TV series type)  -> Policy update: Audio only podcasts can now be listed on IMDb! | IMDb Community Forums (sprinklr.com). As part of this launch, the team has moved all the previously contributed podcasts (under the old policy) over to this new title type.

This change has been soft-launched for a few weeks to allow the team to perform extensive end-to-end testing to ensure any issues were addressed before this announcement. I note, it was spotted in this thread -> New title type - Podcast Series | IMDb Community Forums (sprinklr.com)

We have been assisted in testing by some of our contributors, thank you!

Please do let me know if you have any questions, or spot any issues.

Cheers,

Rachel

When using a title correction to change a title to podcast series, this ambiguous warning appears:

Title format changes have special syntax

Your update includes the word "Series". If you're trying to change this title to an episodic series, this is not the correct approach.

  • To change a title into an episodic series, enclose the title in quotes: "Title" (2021)
  • To change a title into a mini-series, first turn it into a series as above if it isn't already; then, add the keyword tv-mini-series.
  • To change a title into a podcast series, update the name to reflect "Title" (2021) (Podcast Series)

If you only included the word "series" because it actually appears in the onscreen title, then check the box to ignore this message.

This seems wrong: a podcast series listed under Actress:Movie

This mis-classification of podcasts is still happening.

What are the plans for this?

Similarly, music videos fall under the Movie heading, which also seems wrong, since these are usually on TV, not in theatres, and are, by definition Shorts.

@bderoes Name pages will eventually be moved onto the new IMDb design / technology platform, so this will be fixed at that point.   Note that the issue only affects the small percentage of customers who have opted into "Display credits separately for Movie and TV" on https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general (which BTW also affects me).

My web series is listed as podcast series, even though I didn't select this option. Having trouble finding how to correct it. Podcast = audio only. My web series is video. I was able to put in the 16:9 aspect ratio...

A podcast can be a video podcast.

If web series is more accurate, you would have to use the TV series format in a title correction. This basically means removing the (Podcast Series) tag. Then add web-series as a keyword.
