Language / title issue for Die unendliche Geschichte / The Neverending Story (1984)
The movie Die unendliche Geschichte / The Neverending Story (1984) is a German production, but originally filmed with (at least mainly) English-language actors. Of course, a German-dubbed version was produced for the German market. An interesting edge question is, what should be considerered the "original" title for this movie?
Current choice seems to be the title in the country it was produced in, but I'd like to argue it should be the title in the language it was originally filmed in. What are your opinions on this matter, has it already been discussed to death? And, yes, I'm well aware this could become a very complex can of worms with some European multi-language-dubbed films.

The general rule is: "We use the original title of a movie/show in its original language as it appears on screen (on the title card) in the opening credits."
But I agree that it's not always obvious how to apply this. What is the original language? An aspect that you don't mention is that the film was first released in Germany (according to IMDb's data), where it may have had a German title card.

The Original Title is "Die unendliche Geschichte" and yes Wolfgang Petersen made this movie mostly with enlish speaking actors. But it is shot in the Bavaria Filmstudios in Geiselgasteig and is a 100 % german production

From Wikipedia german version:
Die Drehzeit erstreckte sich vom 15. März bis zum 15. September 1983.
