Keyword Question: I've asked before, but I must ask again

IF a keyword has NO titles, when is that keyword deleted from the drop-down menu on a keyword search, and from the list of suggested keywords when adding, deleting and/or correcting a keyword?

The answer to both your questions is currently about 24 to 36 hours after the last instance of that keyword is deleted. That answer does change from time to time, and it may not always be the same answer to both questions.

In my keyword searches, I keep finding keywords that have NO titles listed, beyond 24 to 36 hours.  Same when adding, deleting or correcting keywords.  They seem to "linger" much longer.

I have also come across a few keywords supposedly assigned to a title that, when one goes to that title, the keyword is NOT listed.  This may be months AFTER the keyword was deleted or corrected.

Can you give me some example keywords?

Are you running keyword searches or title searches, or both? Title searches are usually much more up to date.

Also, are you remembering to include Adult titles in your searches? That can often be the source of discrepancies in the numbers.

I will need to get back to you later.  Off to a screening of "The Good Nurse" and a q&a with Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne.

Here are a few, but there are many more:

Here is what is going on with those keywords.

The keywords on your list are each still assigned to at least one Adult title. That is why those keywords still show up in the keyword mapping, and they will continue to show up so long as they are still assigned to at least one Adult title.

Taking the first keyword on your list, "woman-wearing-a-towel," the keyword mapping currently shows that keyword as assigned to 5 titles. In reality, it is currently assigned to 3 titles, all of them Adult titles. Most likely this means you have deleted this keyword from 2 titles at some point over the past four days. (The numbers of titles in the keyword mapping are usually updated once per week, on Sundays.)

If you had deleted that keyword from all 5 titles on the same day, then it would be removed from the keyword mapping 24 to 36 hours later. But since you have only deleted it from 2 of 5 titles, the keyword mapping will continue to display 5 titles until next Sunday, when the mapping will be updated and it will then display 3 titles.

I should know this, but I don't.  How does one include Adult titles?  How does one remove the block on Adult titles?

I never go to them, nor refer to them.

Sorry, but I'm still confused.  Isn't there some way to get Adult titles AWAYS included in any and every search?

Not for keyword searches, unfortunately. Or at least not that I'm aware of.

Maybe it was possible to configure settings like that in the past. This part of the guidelines does seem to imply this was once the case:

Special keywords

https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/keywords/GXQ22G5Y72TH8MJ5?ref_=helpms_helpart_inline#special

hardcore | sex These two keywords, combined with the Adult genre, will restrict the display of a title to those people who have chosen to see adult titles

These days, though, there is only a way to "permanently" turn Adult searches on and off when doing a title search. And by that I mean literally searching for the titles (aka names) of shows and films. (The lingo on here can get confusing.) Option #1 in this Help guide explains how to do that, but it won't help you for what you're trying to do (keyword searches):

How can I find adult titles on IMDb?

https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/discover-watch/how-can-i-find-adult-titles-on-imdb/GT2L8RJBBDGFR4G3?ref_=helpart_nav_16#

That means your only options are Option #2 in that Help guide I just linked to, or doing keyword searches and then manually editing the URL to turn it into a title search with Adult films included.

I do both of these options regularly if I want to understand the full scope of a keyword on IMDb. I prefer my method of manually editing the URL because it's quicker.

I suppose someone could create a browser extension that would automatically convert keyword searches into title searches with Adult titles included (when the extension is turned on). That would be nice.

Anyway, I promise that it's not hard to manually edit the URL each time. I do this all the time. After doing this a few times it becomes second nature. Just run a keyword search on a specific keyword, then if you want to see the Adult titles included, change "keyword" in the URL to "title" and add "&adult=include" to the end of the URL. It takes 3 seconds.

Thanks.  It works. But... what a "roundabout way" to get at something that should be much easier to access!

Well, one thing I am learning:  keywords on Adult titles are an absolute mess!
