Your Comment
The James Yorkston in question is a Scottish musician born in 1971. He has been erroneously cited as the writer of the 19th century music-hall song "Molly Malone", whose composer was another James Yorkston, also Scottish, who published the song in Edinburgh in 1884. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Malone.

Is the info on Wikipedia pages inadequate to verify that a modern musician is credited with writing a song written 100 years before he was born?

I simply wanted to split off 4 credits in Soundtracks which belong to the earlier James Yorkston, although the latter does not as yet have his own IMDb page. I pointed this out in my submission. (Two of the soundtracks were in films released even before the modern JY was born.)

Perhaps I did the split wrong; it's a first time. But the substance of the objection is correct.

Hi @hutch48 -

As per our guidelines we do not consider Wikipedia (or other collaboratively edited wiki-style sites) to be an acceptable source for birth dates.

Thanks!

You're also adding the URL as a birthplace. I even have a thread about this mistake keeps getting approved: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/how-are-these-birthplaces-approved/64349e82cab3782a6e0cce0f

@mbmb  I thought that space was for the confirmation URL! My bad ... I've used Wikipedia for other confirmations, but I guess birthdates are a special case.

"or other collaboratively edited wiki-style sites"  ... does that include IMDb?

I guess so, considering the spam info you seem to have been trying to correct.

So what does that leave? A person's official personal website? This info definitely needs correcting.

@hutch48  I submitted the name and date of birth of the person in question.

Keep in mind that you shouldn't submit any date of birth/death information simpy by copying from Wikipedia, or IMDB itself for that matter to make sure that the information is accompanied with the concrete evidence because both wikipedia and IMDB could provide wrong information.

@jabrenner  Thank you! May I ask what source you used to gather this info?

Once the birthdate goes live, the split should be easier. I will try to absorb the rather complicated details of Name Splits before I try that.

@hutch48  Did you create a page for the elder James Yorkston? For now a search reveals James Yorkston (III), who is now credited with one Soundtrack version of "Molly Malone". Perhaps IMDb staff are taking the matter in hand ...

The 4 Soundtrack credits I was trying to remove from

James Yorkston(I)

are now gone. I think elves come in the night and do all the cobbling work left over from the previous day. Perhaps tomorrow

James Yorkston(III)

will have all of the appropriate credits.

Hi @hutch48 -

From what I gather, the issue is now resolved. Otherwise, if there are any outstanding issues let us know!

@hutch48

I did some digging online to confirm his info on wiki, and found an article from a reputable source referencing his age, and his birthday was from a Twitter post.

And as for the other types of info, I also kept looking for them to verify. You see, one better check all the boxes before submitting any kind of information to any platform.
