Is there a list of the “special keywords” that get delayed processing?

I know that keywords now have a low priority, but certain keyword submissions are processed later than other keywords.  These “delayed” keywords are ones that IMDb apparently regards as “especially sensitive” since they deal with sex, politics, religion, etc., and IMDb apparently considers itself as the moral arbiter of such keywords.

To me, keywords are an objective reporting of the content of a title, whatever they are, and regardless of how one “feels” or “thinks” about them.  Subjectivity should be avoided in keywords.  Keywords are reporting, not editorializing.

Here are just a few examples of IMDb’s “special keywords”:

butt-grab

erection

fellatio

female-masturbation

homosexual-teenager

implied-rape

jew (deferred to “jewish”?)

marital-rape

penis

rape

repressed-homosexual

teenage-rapist

transgender

There are many others.

Hi @bradley_kent -

Thanks for your observations. Depending on the data type, contributions should be processed on IMDb within 1 - 7 days.
Contributions are not processed strictly in the order they are received; we optimize processing for overall efficiency and accuracy. This means even items within the same submission for the same data section may go live at different times.

Cheers!

I understand all of that, but this does not answer my inquiry.  WHY are the keywords dealing with sex, religion, politics, the ones that have delayed processing.  If the delayed keywords were random, your response would suffice.  But the delayed keywords are not random.  They have apparently somehow been designated for possible morality/censorship/sensitivity/puritanical thinking.

Hi @bradley_kent,

As mentioned above, the processing of certain data is not always conducted in the order it is received, and therefore delays can be encountered. However, as you are probably aware, contributions need to be verified and dependent on numerous factors we consider when processing, will occasionally require additional verification. As such, the keywords you have highlighted can often take longer to verify and process, but there is no editorial decision-making taking place in regards to the subject of these keywords.

I hope this helps!

Are these delays done by a bot?  Have there been “transgressions” by contributors?  Or, is it just the MORAL “red line in the sand” determined by IMDb? Some are hilarious, like “trash-bag” (Is “trash” or “bag” the possibly offensive word?) and “petending-to-be-a-garbage-man” (Is “garbage” a bad word in this context?) Amusing, and irritating.  Perhaps IMDb should encourage creators to NOT make titles that may offend. Objectivity, where has thee gone? P.S. Yes, IMDb has the right to determine its content, but should be “upfront” about it.  Otherwise, the user is led to believe what is untrue is true, and vice versa. If there is such a list, it needs to be revised. The evidence would suggest that “there is no editorial decision-making taking place in regards to the subject of these keywords” is just not true. I estimate that 90% to 95% of the “delayed processing” of these “special” keywords DOES have something to do with sex.  (A couple of hilarious example: “fanny-pack”and “head-butt.”) There is apparently some sort of “screening” program being used. And some of these kinds of keywords are just not processed, but deleted.  That happened to the keyword “pedophile” from a title that is ABOUT a pedophile!  Now, I am, personally, morally, totally against pedophilia, but, if that is the subject of a title, as a reporter and researcher, I must acknowledge it.   It’s objectivity rater than subjectivity.   IMDb should not be moralizing about a title’s content. The result might be better if you posted the reference number of the rejected submission. Perhaps you could also share the reason stated in the tracking feature (unable to verify? does not meet contribution guidelines?)

As for the rest of the thread: IMDb may not want to say much about their internal procedures, which is normal, but as you said yourself:

These “delayed” keywords are ones that IMDb apparently regards as “especially sensitive”

This is indeed apparent and obvious, and I don't think it's very strange that IMDb might want to make an effort to avoid adding such sensitive keywords without at least checking them first. Personally I think it's probably a good thing that at least some keywords are checked before being published. And of course when there is a verification process some submissions may be declined, and sometimes there may be mistakes.
