Incorrect Song Listing on Miami Vice Page

Greetings. This post is regarding an error on the Miami Vice television series page.

For some reason, when you look at each individual episode of the television series Miami Vice, under the Soundtracks section, the song In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins is listed as having appeared in every single episode of the series. That song was only featured in two episodes; the Pilot (Season 1, Episode 1) and A Bullet For Crockett (Season 4, Episode 20). Is there a simple way to remove this song from each individual episode listing? Because, with the exception of the two aforementioned episodes, the song did not appear in the show at any other time, and it certainly was not featured in every single episode.

Thank you.

Hello TCMcG,

The corrections have to be submitted using the online Update Form, you can find help and instructions in our Help Articles. Here is also the Soundtrack guidelines.

Fran,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have tried to update the site using the appropriate form, however, the form does not allow me to request that data be removed, only added. I don’t want to add song titles to each episode, I wish to point out that someone has already incorrectly added that song to every episode in the series, and therefore, the song needs to be removed from each episode’s Soundtracks section. If you look at any of the episodes from any of the five season of the series, you will see that song listed alongside all the other music which was featured during the episode. What I’m saying is that that song was not used in every episode, and anyone can verify this by simply watching the show as I have. I have been a fan of this show since its inception, and the information on this site is simply incorrect.

Can you please advise how I can edit the lists to remove a song, pending approval of course?

Thank you.

TCMcG: First of all, it is possible to submit a deletion of a song from a soundtrack listing.

To do this, you would go to a soundtrack page (example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0647075/soundtrack/ for "Miami Vice" episode 1.2) and click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Soundtracks line, select "Correct/Delete". Click "Continue".

On the next screen, you will see the songs currently listed on the episode soundtrack, with a drop-down menu to the left of each song. Select "Delete" in the menu to the left of the incorrect song. Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, you will need to provide an explanation for the deletion, such as "The song "In the Air Tonight" was not used in this episode." Then click "Re-check these updates". The rest of the process should be self-explanatory.

However ...

It looks like you would have to submit deletions of this song from 81 separate episodes of "Miami Vice". There's no way that I know of to submit these 81 deletions all in one submission.

So I would request that Fran revisit this request to see if there is a way for the staff to do a bulk deletion of "In the Air Tonight" from the 81 episodes of "Miami Vice" where the song was not actually included.

Thank you gromit82. That makes perfect sense… except that the “Edit” button was not showing up on the Soundtracks page. I figured out that I was not seeing it because I was using the IMDB app on my phone, and not the actual website. So I jumped on my laptop and there it was; the link was visible when I went to the site on my laptop. So I’ve gone through all five seasons now, made the proper changes and submitted those changes for approval. (Yep, I did the “delete” request on each individual episode.) The odd thing was, that even in the two episodes where that song was used, it was listed twice. One had the complete info listed, (including the “uncredited” notation and a “Written By” notation) and the other was an incomplete listing (missing those two notations). The incomplete listing was present on all of the other shows, almost as if it has been “mass edited” to be added to every episode. Not sure if that’s even possible, but that’s what it looked like to me. Either way, they’ve all been marked for deletion now, so we can probably close this thread out.

PS: The only reason I care so much is because music was such an integral part of the series, and many fans (myself included) find it helpful to have an accurate resource when searching for a specific song used in an episode. My next task is to go in and add the instrumental music written and performed by Jan Hammer in the appropriate episodes. (As of now, none of these tracks are documented on this site.) A few years back, (2002 to be exact) Hammer released a two-disc CD set with tons of music that he used in the show. The set contains a booklet with detailed information on which songs were used in each episode. So there is a blueprint for the music that is not currently listed on the site. Not sure why someone hasn’t taken the time to add these tracks before, but it’ll give me something to do.

Thanks again so much for your help!
