Solved

Incorrect primary displayed release date.

The primary release date for this title which is on display on the main title page, is a later date than an earlier date also currently listed for this title. The current date on display is for the UK (December 2003), the earlier date is for the US (August 2003). It should, I believe, be the one that is on primary display. I requested an amendment to this issue via the email system. I received no clear responses to my presented info twice, being wilfully ignored first by Enzo and then Hektor. I was simply directed to the the same link twice; the "Release Dates" guidelines, in the same email thread. Unless I'm mistaken, nowhere do these guidelines inform me as to how I can fix this. Thanks.

So, I was able to finally discern what was causing the more recent release date to display rather than what should have been the original date. The UK December 03 date was an incomplete submission that had never had its 'release type' entered. Upon listing it as release type 'unknown' (as for the UK it could've been released as one of several formats, which I'm unable to determine) the primary release date on display immediately self-corrected to the earlier US August 03 date. --It's unfortunate that I had to figure this out on my own as this was not immediately obvious.

The earlier date has an "Audiobook" attribute, which may be unnecessary. I wonder if it would help if you selected physical media in the update form and then entered CD or whatever the original format was. Otherwise, I guess the earlier date would be displayed on the main page if both dates had the same attribute.

After trying to google details of the release I have some doubt whether the August date is correct. That is because George RR Martin seems to have posted in November 2003 that the release was upcoming.

@Peter_pbn

Hi, thanks for your efforts on this. I was able to resolve this as detailed in the new comment thread below. I've found when it comes to audiobooks referring to the official publication site for the title provides reliable data, such as in this instance the precise release date.

The original 'production company' for this audiobook is 'Books on Tape', now an imprint of 'Penguin Random House Audio, NY'.

https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/108336/a-game-of-thrones-hbo-tie-in-edition-by-george-r-r-martin/9781415900642/

I read the link you helpfully provided. Although at first it does seem to indicate a mismatch for the presented release date, when it comes to the first book in particular Martin says in the final paragraph "A GAME OF THRONES alone filled thirty-eight 90-minute cassettes…" notice, this part is spoken in the past tense, which at the very least confirms the recording and production process was actually complete for this title by this stage. Seeing that the precise date is provided by the official publishers, and there's no clear evidence to indicate otherwise at this time, I believe this is the most reliable and probably accurate info for the date of release. I appreciate it's not entirely clear going off what he said though. Thank you.
