Solved

imdb showing pre production projects as released.

Dear IMDb Editorial Team,

I am writing to express significant frustration with the current process for updating release dates on projects still in pre- or post-production. Historically, this was a straightforward adjustment to accommodate common industry realities like delays, postponements, or reprioritization—essential for keeping IMDb accurate and useful for filmmakers and audiences alike. However, recent changes have made it unnecessarily cumbersome, leading to wasted time and potential inaccuracies in project listings.

For context, our project The Accident  was inadvertently listed with an imminent release date during a brief window when it appeared poised for fast-tracking. In reality, it remains firmly in pre-production, and we sought only to push the release forward to reflect this accurately—before any public rollout occurred. Despite clear evidence of its status (attached: production timeline docs and team confirmations), the update was denied, contradicting past practices and forcing us into a loop of resubmissions.

This rigidity risks turning IMDb into a cluttered "waystation" for stalled projects: titles marked as "completed" or dated prematurely, even when they never advance beyond development. It undermines trust in the platform and burdens contributors with administrative hurdles that don't align with the fluid nature of film/TV production.

Hi jeffabby-

In order for our staff to review, can you post the link to the title page and the 18-digit submission reference numbers for these contributions?

Cheers!

Hi jeffabby,

As I can see it, your movie is being mistakenly associated with another title, and your team did nothing to clean the wrong data out. Thus, the editors could go not deep enough when checking. I'm not from the Editorial team, but hope my comments could be helpful to understand some errors and mistakes which lead to the result you have:

1️⃣ Scheduled release dates are much easier to correct before they happen. As a producer, you are as informed as possible about the final production dates, and you should know this before, not after the date that is coming. When IMDb editors see an attempt to change a past date, they may consider it as an attack on the correct data, but they shouldn't be so harsh if an insider tells them in advance that production won't be completed on time.

2️⃣ The vast majority of projects in development are listed only on IMDbPro. For the most part IMDb only shows details about films that have been completed and released, or are in active production. If an exception was made for your in-development title which have been announced in the press, and then it turned to pre-production status, you still can return it to the "in-development" status, and before its first public release you still have the option to ask for taking the title page away. It is much better to keep the correct status than to keep prolonging the first release date.

3️⃣ On your title page, there is a link to external review which mixes your movie with the Italian  released in 2023. Perhaps, the link has been on the IMDb page for two years, with no reaction from your team. The external link itself could be mistaken as an additional evidence that the film was reviewed after watched. I'm submitting a removal request for the link to be deleted, but here is its current screenshot:

4️⃣ On your title page, there is not only release date but also other data which could be treated by mistake as evidential for released movie. Such as international AKAs, certifications, running time, some technical spechs that usually become actual when post-production. To correct or delete them together with the false date of release, I have prepared a direct link so you can do it yourself:LINK to edit data

*️⃣ Additionally, it is good to know that AllMovie site is an informational partner of IMDb. Unfortunately, they have listed a lot of streaming services for your unreleased movie, linking to another films. You could point to this when submitting a removal of release date for your title.
