IMDb should include allegations of sexual harassment and/or assault in trivia

Viewers have a right to know if we are supporting actors who have a history of sexually predatory behavior. Including everything but this information effectively contributes to and tacitly supports rape culture.

Viewers have the right to know, and there are scores of other medias, incuding Wikipedia, to record that information. But this is not the purpose of IMDb, which is only registers data around movie and TV programs, it is not a moral registry.

Moreover, moral behaviors have very little to do with the artistic acomplishement of the concerned persons. IMdb tackles only the latter.

I agree in principle. I prefer an objective "separating the artist from the art" approach. I could argue that allegations within the industry are sometimes relevant trivia. For example, if someone leaves a cast (or is fired) then that is potentially trivia relevant to that IMDB entry. If the reason behind it is an allegation of sexual harassment or predatory behavior then listing the allegation is no different than listing some other reason for the departure.

If so, then the accusers should be identified, whether they are victims, witnesses, police or prosecutors, otherwise we would not know for sure that the accuser even in fact exists, much like how a court would not, but interestingly a court can receive this information and then sometimes will redact it in publications of the court proceedings.

Certainly IMDb should be very careful when dealing any ”allegations” (in any crime or wrongdoing). In my opinion, trivia and biography sections are not really there for rumors or ”alleged things” - also considering how difficult it can be to remove them later on.

Sure, trivia bits like ”was heavily rumored for the lead role of...” can be interesting (if there are solid proof about these rumors), but that’s a bit different issue than accusing someone of a crime. Not all of these rumors are true - even when (sadly) many are.

"IMDb should include allegations" -- Wrong.
IMDb is not, and I don't know another movie-base that could be aiming to aggregate such or similar information intentionally or obligatory.

"IMDb should allow users to share information concerning allegations" -- This is correct variant to discuss. Not taking any side of such discussion, I see that both sides may use some existing features, such as URL-linking to online articles.

Moreover. In view of where another discussion resulted, the lists "content is not monitored or edited by IMDb". So, both sides are free to create and publish as many lists as they wish, where include all the actors / actresses / producers / others they consider to be absolutely clean or god-like, or per contra, to be under allegations or "we think they will be somehow somewhere". A user may publish A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G in a list.

I don't think IMDb can be said to exclude such information in general. Examples from bio trivia:

"He was fired from The Weinstein Company on October 2017 following several allegations of his sexual misconduct that broke out in The New York Times early that same month."

"His and Mia Farrow's 12-year relationship ended in a custody battle over their three children in which she accused him of sexually molesting their daughter Dylan O'Sullivan Farrow, though the judge dismissed the claims because they were not substantiated."

"Fifteen indivduals accused him of sexual abuse, including journalist Heather Unruh (who alleged that Spacey sexually assaulted her son); Norwegian author and former royal family member Ari Behn; filmmaker Tony Montana; actor Roberto Cavazos; Richard Dreyfuss' son Harry; and eight people who worked on House of Cards (2013)."

These should be evaluated in ”case by case" basis. And I would say IMDb should have some internal discussions with their data editors when to ”approve” these type of trivia/bio sections. Since it’s pretty obvious that not all contributers think that far ahead before submitting something - or they’ve agenda behind certain submissions.

Whenever the ”case by case" basis is involved, the end responsibility comes from the crowd to the entity. Do you expect that IMDb going to live with that? :)
