IMDb Review Problem

Hello,

I’ve recently noticed that when submitting reviews containing colons or dashes, the submission is rejected, with a message stating that these cannot be included in reviews.

However, when retroactively editing an already approved review, colons and dashes can be added without issue. This inconsistency suggests the restriction is not intentional or is being incorrectly applied at the submission stage.

Colons and dashes are standard grammatical punctuation. Disallowing them during submission results in reviews being unnecessarily restricted or grammatically incorrect.

I’d appreciate it if this issue could be reviewed and addressed.

Additionally, reviews are now being rejected for containing dashes when, in fact, they contain none at all. This means that I cannot upload my review at all.

Update:

After repeated rejections stating that my review contained disallowed dashes (despite containing none), I attempted to submit the exact same review paragraph by paragraph. This worked, and the review has now been published in full — including all dashes.

Given this, it’s unclear what the submission filter or AI is detecting when a review is uploaded, as the punctuation itself is evidently permitted.

I’d appreciate clarification on what’s causing this inconsistent behaviour.
