IMDb code numbers

Hi there! Can you explain how does the IMDb system you use to catalogue DVDs in DVDpedia works?
For instance, Martin Scorsese’s  Taxi Driver (1976) has the IMDB code number 0075314.
Thank you.

Flavio: I don't think DVDpedia is a site affiliated with IMDb; they may just use the IMDb title ID numbers. You will notice that the URL for IMDb's Taxi Driver page is https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075314/ which means that the IMDb title ID for that film is tt0075314.

IMDb started assigning title ID numbers (also known as "title constants") probably more than 25 years ago. It appears that the lowest numbers were given to silent films from the 1890s, and the numbering was roughly chronological, but not precisely, when the numbers were first assigned.

After title IDs were assigned to every title then listed in the database, each title added later was simply given the next available number, generally speaking. Note that sometime in the 2000s decade, full episode support was instituted, meaning that every known TV episode was and has been given its own title ID as well.
