identity theft

My screen credit name is ANDY GASKILL. I neglected to purchase the IMDb site in that name and now a stranger has taken over the site. The person poses as having the same name as me. This is my career, my work he's taken possession of. Using the IMDb site as a launching pad he's populating the internet with screen credits and claiming them as his. What's to be done here? I've already started interviewing lawyers but it would be great if IMDb had a resolution mechanism.

Is this the page you mean:

Are you saying information on this page is incorrect?

If so, you can submit corrections:

No, it's not about the screen credits; they're accurate. The name ANDY GASKILL and the associated IMDb account has been hijacked by someone else who is now using it for his purposes. I'm locked out of that account. In a weird way, he is turning himself into me. It's awkward.

Hi Andy,

Joking aisde, Is all the information on the IMDb accurate? For example, were you born in 1951 in Camden, NJ?

Yes, my bio information is accurate. But your question begs another question- how do I know it's true? I don't know how IMDb verifies user posts, presumably they do some research. When I submitted my data they wanted me to corroborate it by linking to a URL. I don't have personal ID posted on a URL somewhere; what would be on there? Birth certificate? Old paycheck stubs from Disney? I want as little personal data online as possible.

Some fields require verification and some don't. For example, a date of death would require evidence but the information contained in a mini bio would not require evidence to back it up. Anyone can update a name page or update a title page with a credit of yours. If someone added a title you worked on and identified you as a crew member, your name page would expand by that credit without anyone going to your name page.
