I really can't understand this!

Hello, guys. Couple of days ago, I wanted to modify a short sentence in my review of The Hunt for Red October (1990) because I noticed that it was grammatically incorrect. I did that, then the site refused it. Though, this is not the real problem. The real problem was that I found out that the review itself was deleted in the same day! So refusing to modify an old review means deleting it now?! Anyway, I tried to re-submit it, but the site declined. So why does a review, that was on IMDb since 14 February 2010, get deleted, then rejected after re-submitting it?! It was there, as it is, for more than 15 years already! Please, I want to know what could be the reason, and how can I get that review back.

The review is not meeting the User Review guidelines therefore was removed from the site. It had comments not related to the Title content and based on real life events. You can write and submit a new Review based in the guidelines. https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/contribution-information/user-review-guidelines/GABTWSNLDNFLPRRH?ref_=helpsrall#

This is strange. The review was peacefully on the site for the past 15 years! It's unfair to apply new guidelines to older reviews retroactively. As far as I know, you apply them to the reviews written AFTER these guidelines were established! Furthermore, it's unfair that even when applying your new guidelines retroactively, you only apply them to an old review which happened to be modified grammatically, not to ALL the old reviews that violate your rules! Over and above, I re-examined my review thoroughly and saw nothing that violates these rules. There's no straying from the main topic, nor any mention of real-life events! ..Otherwise my personal opinion is what's objectionable! Simply I reject propaganda cinema, especially when it has extreme viewpoint; portraying one side as angelic, and the rest as demonic, which is what I observed in the movie, and no need to say that it is my right to highlight and refuse this. And preventing me from publishing this is a restriction on my freedom, which is the last thing I expect from the site that I love and respect, the very site that I've been writing on for 18 years! Dear Farn, this is one of 1178 reviews I wrote on IMDb, of which none of them met anything like that before. Therefore - again - I really can't understand this!

Hi @elshikh4,

Apologies for the delayed response on this thread, and I understand your frustration, especially given your long history of contributing reviews to IMDb.

Whilst some older content is grandfathered in (such as reviews shorter than our current 300-character minimum), all reviews must comply with our current user review guidelines, regardless of when they were written. When a review is edited, it has to be processed by our team again. Additionally, please be aware that any existing review can be reported by users at any time, and will be evaluated against our current guidelines, regardless of how long it has been on the site.

If your review was found to breach our current guidelines, it would be removed. This can happen even if the review was previously accepted. We encourage you to submit a new or edited review in accordance with our current guidelines.

Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks Ozzy for your clarifications, I did re-submit an edited version of my review, and - to my surprise - it was declined as well!

I really can't understand this matter this time. Hence, plaease read at least the edited version to tell me where is such part that breaches your current guidelines. Here's the link:

PS: Please, to whoever did it, don't mark this thread as solved, because it isn't yet.

If I may, why is it marked as "solved", while it isn't yet?!

@elshikh4- Hi,

Regarding the review on this thread, the review breaches our guidelines which is why it was declined as it contains the following:

Personal opinions or speculation on real life events or subject matter on which a film is based

We therefore recommend editing the review in adherence with our guidelines linked above and you are welcome to re-submitt it.

Thanks!

Are you kidding me?! Criticism is founded on "personal opinions", so how a review is rejected because it has one?!!

Over and above, I modified my review 5 times, and still the strange response of rejection is there: "Personal opinions or speculation on real life events or subject matter on which a film is based"?!!!

Dear Maya, I examined that review, over and over again, and I really can't understand where are these very bad words that you criminalize. So, please, can you tell me the specific lines that need - from the site's pointview - to be modified?

PS: Marking a thread as "solved", while it's obviously not, is very silly by the way!

@elshikh4- The content of your review has some political personal opinions with commentaries on propaganda and is therefore not aligned with our User Review guidlines.

Some examples: "However, I found nothing but a well-made propaganda through a well-made thriller...since they have another, mostly evil, agenda...Ahh, sorry. Cancel the "political satire" here, since it doesn't totally exist! (The Hunt for Red October) is pure propaganda work from start to finish. Actually, America is shown as the definite promise land. There is nothing slightly wrong with its people. And anyone but them is whether a deranged, helpless, or naive (the patriotic Russians; namely the enemy). Or a sophisticated genius (the submarine's generals); simply because their desperate desire to be under the wings of Uncle Sam!...It's smart deal, where the best about it is that it's high-quality movie before being high-pitched propaganda. So it's so watchable, not too common, Hollywood fare. But still the problem remains in me; I just don't fully enjoy these long and expensive touristic advertisements!"

Removal of these examples would be acceptable for any re-submissions, and consideration of our guidelines will assist in your contributions being approved moving forward.

Oh My God!

After 18 years of writing on IMDb, I'm speechless!

So "saying" that one movie is a "a well-made propaganda" is banned on the site now?!!!!!!!! Fyi, as for the movie in hand, The Hunt for Red October (1990), big-wig critics, like Rolling Stone's Peter Travers, said the same about it at the time of its release!

How come that the line of "Cancel the "political satire" here, since it doesn't totally exist!" is wrong?! The movie doesn't have political satire, so what's the big deal?!! Dude, Where's My Car? (2000) doesn't have political satire as well, so saying that about it through a review is rejected from your side?!!!

Plus, the ones who "have another, mostly evil, agenda" are the characters of Tom Clancy's novels, namely his bad guys. It's clear that I'm talking about fictional characters. Read Clancy's work, or watch the movies based on them, to actually see that!!

"America is shown as the definite promise land. There is nothing slightly wrong with its people"; this is the movie's point of view, and its makers are entitled to their own opinion. Consequently, I'm - also - entitled to my own opinion, however the site restricts my freedom now?!!

"But still the problem remains in me; I just don't fully enjoy these long and expensive touristic advertisements!". I admit here that it's not the movie as much as it's me; since I can't stand propaganda movies, or respect their lack of objectivity. However the site wants me to change my mind, and love what I hate?!

I'm shocked, the IMDb is turning into inquisition???

Based on the foregoing, the site no longer respects the other's thinking, I won't remove anything from my review, and I am not honored to submit it on your site in the first place.

For the very first time in my life, I see such an ugly face for the site I loved and respected. Hope you get well soon!

In 2010, I posted a review about The Hunt for Red October (1990), and the IMDb approved it. Then, suddenly, after 15 years, while my try to grammatically modify it, the site simply deleted it! The reason is applying new guidelines to older reviews retroactively, and - worse - the declared reason from your side is having "Personal opinions or speculation on real life events or subject matter on which a film is based"?!!!! Since when is a personal opinion rejected from a film review, or any review for that matter?! And how come I'm forbidden from saying my opinion on any film's subject matter?!! So - for instance - when a film promotes drug abuse in a way, and I refuse that, along with drug abuse itself--the site forbids that now?!!! This is new, and dangerous, stuff for me. And it will make me think million times before writing anything on IMDb again! As for my unfortunate review, I really can't understand what's wrong with it after all of these years (and 5 attempts of modification already)? Where is such crime that it did? To add more fuel, nobody has anything to say but this enigmatic, rather dull, line: "Personal opinions or speculation on real life events or subject matter on which a film is based"?!!!! To solve this, please tell me the specific lines that need - from the site's pointview - to be modified, because this is getting too far; and I'm talking about that review's problem, and the site's actions as well! Btw, this is the fifth rejected version of my review to read and examine: https://contribute.imdb.com/contribution/251129-225307-355421?ref_=pe_119700180_1024075190_wa_em_ra_his Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation Link : https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/5-times-a-review-is-rejected-and-i-still-dont-know-why/69301a3c4c34451034143913 Title : 5 times a review is rejected, and I still don't know why?!

Based on my very bad experience with you lately, regarding my review of The Hunt for Red October (1990), I'd like to know if words like "propaganda", "political satire", or "Uncle Sam" are now prohibited on the site?

I asked this question, 6 days ago, on my thread and nobody cared of answering me. Over and above, the thread itself was marked "Solved"?! So, since there was no "solve" to be seen, I'll ask my question again: "Based on my very bad experience with you lately, regarding my review of The Hunt for Red October (1990), I'd like to know if words like "propaganda", "political satire", or "Uncle Sam" are now prohibited on the site?"
