How to list a name with the Slavic letter Đ

I recently ran in to a person who is sometimes credited as Andjelka Vlaisavljevic and sometimes as Anđelka Vlaisavljevic.

I had been crediting them with with Andelka Vlaisavljevic but that doesn't seem right after I googled the letter. They are from Serbia, so it is the Slavic form of the letter which seems like it should be transliterated to dj not d but I am not sure and there doesn't seem to be any guideline in IMDB for languages other than Russian.

Hey adrian-

Currently, this is something on the works, still some special characters are not supported on the online form. Can you link the name page here, so I can try to do it manually?

Thanks!

@Bethanny

Andjelija Vlaisavljevic. The only credits that I am sure use the Đ are the ones for Miss Scarlet & the Duke.

Hi, Bethanny. Since there is something along those lines currently in the works to be implemented, it would be great if the Polish alphabet is accounted for in addition to the the Czech and Romanian alphabets.

@adrian I have modified the ones for Miss Scarlet & the Duke.

And @jeorj_euler I will make sure to pass this on.

Cheers!

Thanks. I didn't think that these types of characters were supported. Is that changing now? It seems like maybe the base name should change to represent their native language?

@adrian It is not supported through the online form, sometimes (not all the time) I can add them manually. Hopefully this will change at some point.

The form turns green when I try to add "(as Anđelka Vlaisavljevic)".

@adrian  The primary name should generally be the most credited form, per usual guidelines.

At some point a policy will be needed. The old policy was as stated here, hence the confusion:

  • The character set of all primary titles and names is ISO-LATIN-1 (ISO-8859-1). Original titles/names using other character sets (ISO-LATIN-2, Chinese pictograms, Cyrillic letters etc.) must be transliterated to ISO-LATIN-1.
For alternative titles, we also support Cyrillic KOI8-R, ISO-LATIN-2 and Greek ISO-8859-7 character sets. See for example this title.
We are making slow and steady progress on Unicode support. Note that until every single part of our system supports Unicode, none of it works. Unfortunately, we don't have a timetable that we can share, but please be aware that we are working on it.

That is problematic since most names were entered under the previous restriction of ISO characters.
