How to deal with conflicting information regarding a person

I have been unsuccessfully trying to add some information regarding actress/model Anita Pallenberg. There is conflicting information about her actual birthplace. While she is widely believed to have been born in Rome, Italy, following her death in 2017, not only was her date of birth corrected by her family, several news sources, notably the 'New York Times' and the Swiss 'Neue Zürcher Zeitung', also reported that Pallenberg's son, Marlon Richards, had stated that his mother was in fact born in Hamburg, Germany. I found this information to be credible enough to be added to her profile. However, it seems imdb does not allow adding a second possible birthplace. I then thought I could add this information to the trivia section. This was declined on the grounds of not meeting contribution guidelines. I'm not sure what the issue is: I merely stated that there is conflicting information, which is factually true, I mentioned the two sources in the explanation box, added links, quoted from the articles.

I was wondering if the info did not belong in the trivia section, however, on the Karl Lagerfeld profile the trivia section features the information that while he stated he was born in 1938 a baptismal record indicated he was born September 1933. I don't see what the difference between these two contributions is?

You may want to post the 18-digit contribution number in case staff is ready to override the rejection.

Hello RubyTuesday84,

The trivia item was rejected since this kind of info should be listed on the Birth Date section of the page. Based on the provided evidence, we have changed the birth place for the Birth Date item, the changes will be live on the site shortly for Anita Pallenberg.

Thank you for your reply and for taking the time to look into this matter. The Birth Date section is where I wanted to put the info initially. The problem is, that different sources cite either Rome or Hamburg as the correct birthplace and I wasn't sure if the evidence provided was enough to simply replace the former with the latter. Adding a second possible birthplace currently seems to be impossible. That's why I thought the trivia section might be better suited to reflect the uncertainties regarding this matter. While this is not the rule, there are other instances, where several possible birthdates or places are circulating. At present, it seems difficult to do justice to these cases.

I don’t personally see how it would help to add a second ”possible birthplace”. Either there’s a confirmed info (about the birth place), or not.

This may not be a problem that comes up often. The reality is though, that especially when it comes to people from past eras, there are cases where their origins aren't that clear. If, for example, you relied on confirmed info about entertainer Amanda Lear you would end up with a personal data section that is one big blank space. People make up stories about their age, parents, nationality etc. and unless some biographer or newspaper digs up actual birth certificates or other official documents, you are left with some uncertainties.
