How to add a new Subgenre?

Hello.

On this help page it says "Expand the lists below to see suggested subgenre values. It is possible to contribute other values not listed below, however please only contribute another value if an equivalent suggested value does not exist."

How do I do that?

I tried to use the " Provide an explanation to assist in processing this submission" box , when adding a new Subgenre, but I then get error message:

"Invalid subgenre Please use one of the standard subgenres listed here."

I am trying to add "christmas-calendar" as a Subgenre.

"Christmas calendar" or sometimes referred to as "advent calendar" is a special kind of TV-series genre. It always consists of 24 episodes. Starting on the first of December and ending on 24 of December at Christmas eve. (Sometimes several seasons, but always 24 episodes starting 01. December per season.)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_Christmas_calendar

(The plot is not about a chrismas/advent calendar so it is not a plot, the 24 episodes is a calendar in itself.)

Hi @kristin -

The current list of subgenres have been curated by IMDb staff.  I have modified this post to an Idea for other community members to vote and comment on, and for IMDb staff to monitor interest.

In the meantime, if you feel "christmas-calendar" would be a good "Interest" category, you can add this request to the Interests Suggestions & Feedback thread.

You are right that the help text is misleading since it is not really "possible to contribute other values".

This would not qualify as a subgenre since it does not “fit” underneath any of the existing genres.  It could be a keyword, however.

It is already a keyword, but that will not help finding all "christmas-calendar" TV- shows, I'm guessing using/clicking that keyword would get you all Films and TV-shows that contains a physical Christmas/advent calendar in the story, not the 24-episode calendar shows?

I did not realize that it had to be underneath a "main" genre, so thanks for that info.

It would best fit under the "Family" genre, most of them are made for the family and children to watch each of the 24 days leading up to Christmas.

You can do a keyword search for “christmas-calendar.” Perhaps there could be a new, more specific keyword: “christmas-calendar-tv-show."
