How do I submit a correction for somebody else's name?

Hi,

How do I submit a correction for somebody else's name?

What kind of evidence would be acceptable?

I submitted a link to Wikipedia thinking it would be enough but it was rejected.

It is a Japanese name, so the credits would show "Last name - First name".

Hi @Jimmi1996 -

For eastern names it should actually be First name, Last name. Current formatting is correct from what I see (you can confirm what is the last name just in case). Follow our help guides for more.

Cheers!

Family name: Kore-eda

First name: Hirokazu

Wikipedia shows "Hirokazu Kore-eda"

What I meant by "credits would show Last name - First name", was the credits on a movie, or any other articles in Japanese.

There is a reason why Wikipedia shows it that way, but we are supposed to avoid citing Wikipedia in and of itself for these kind of things. Even with a reliable source upon which Wikipedia relies may be subject to interpretation (even more so depending upon the original language used by a source) in some circumstances especially when the information doesn't perfectly align with IMDb policy.

Avoid Wikipedia links as it's likely a red flag for IMDb.

If credits show Kore-eda first that seems to be a point in favor of doing the same at IMDb. I noticed that Cannes seems to prefer it too.

Hello jonnie_d5di77u27ewrv,

As mentioned in our Help Articles  our submission system will change it so that it is properly stored and displayed. And in the title pages will appear in the correct format as expected. The name page is correct in the name page.

I am sorry, but I do not understand your message.

I also do not understand the relevance of the link you posted.

The name is correctly formatted, there is no need to submit a correction in this case. The link is for our Name formatting guidelines, I encourage you to take a look before submitting a correction or addition.

Can you explain why the name is correctly formatted?

First name: Hirokazu

Family name: Kore-eda

IMDB currently shows "Kore-eda Hirokazu".

Shouldn't it be "Hirokazu Kore-eda" like all the other names?

The particular link you sent points to the paragraph about Japanese and Korean names Romanization and transliterations, which I don't think is relevant to this issue.

Hi jonnie_d5di77u27ewrv-

As explained above by our staff and Peter, the name is correctly formatted. Following our Eastern name formatting guides, 'First name, Last name' will remain as display for Kore-eda Hirokazu

Cheers!

Hi, Jimmi. You bringing this up is much appreciated. Thank you. There was an earlier discussion about how Chinese, Korean and Japanese full-names are to be presented on IMDb, and there is a complication or two due in part to the technical limitations of the database. The rest has to do with the fact that Japanese full-names, when and only when transliterated into Latin alphabet form (possibly other alphabets as well), are supposed to be presented with the given name preceding the family name, contrary to what is done with Chinese and Korean full-names. However, IMDb doesn't follow this convention, and instead aims to present Chinese, Korean and Japanese full-names in the same ordering whereby family name precedes given name.
