Answered

How do I find out which movie I have rated but not reviewed (or review has not been approved)?

Hi,

the question may sound too mundane or simple. Especially if one only has a few reviews, but mine are in the thousands now and there seems to be a discrepancy between what I've rated and what reviews are on. Going through my list manually would take me quite a long time. So if there was a possibility to get information on what titles are rated and not reviewed or the other way around, that would be really awesome.

Some may find this "problem" ridiculous (I have joked about similar things as first world problems), I'd still very much appreciate if I get some help in that matter, without too much other noise.

Thank you so much

Hi, Kospac. Looks as though you did rate Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (five on a scale of one to ten) and Spenser Confidential (seven on a scale of one to ten) but either did not submit reviews for them or those reviews were deleted. Can you confirm this? Your feedback shall be most appreciated.

Wow! Either you're a magician or you know your way around imdb ... I'd like to believe the former! ;)

Thank you so much and whatever you did to find that out is even more appreciated (I shall try to keep a record of what I review - and I did review both those movies, but I guess they either weren't accepted or got deleted)

Cheers friend

You're welcome, Kospac. I worked all day to upgrade my home brew mechanisms sufficiently to handle such a large amount of data. My web client even crashed once or twice in the process. Even though it was hard work, I think that it has benefited my technical proficiency.

Hi F.A.76

There is no way to do what your asking. Most make a mental note of how many reviews they have. This is where things can get strange. You can get a review removed every so often. A contributor will report your review for violations of the guidelines. IMDb will review it. If they find the reporting valid, your review is removed. You'll get no notification of this action either. I hope this explains it for you....

If you need more. Just ask.

Thanks for your reply. I was lucky enough that someone pointed the missing reviews to me.

@Karen_P

Reviews will also be deleted if enough people maliciously report it, and IMDB will remove said review even though it has no violations.

So it looks like a couple of this person's reviews were spam reported in order to have it unfairly removed.

Hi.

You say.......Reviews will also be deleted if enough people maliciously report it

Actually, reviews will be deleted if a single person reports it. This does not work like Craigslist, where it takes multiple reports.

Wait, so it's enough for a single person to report a review that should not be removed because it doesn't violate anything?

Damn. So it doesn't even have to be a group of people controlling a movie's page, one person is enough?

Hi K.O.H.

Yes. You report it. IMDb editors review it. If deemed that it violates policy. It's approved and removed. Or denied and it remains.

You state:

"review that should not be removed because it doesn't violate anything"

The interpretation of what constitutes a violation is the job of the IMDb editors. I have witnessed right here, an employee in their haste approve a removed review that did violate the rules. So mistakes are made sometimes. Even by the employees. So someone once in a while posts here an issue with a removal. It gets reinserted by error. Then it's reported, reviewed, and removed again. These mistakes sometimes give the false impression that the review is OK, when it is not.

So, without a frame of reference (Actual Review in question), how can anyone know what you refer to is or is not in violation?

Thanks

Hi, KingOfHungary. You wrote, "Reviews will also be deleted if enough people maliciously report it, and IMDB will remove said review even though it has no violations." I'm curious to know how long you've believed that to be the case. If that notion is from a long time ago, then you ought to be open to the idea that things have changed. I remember people claiming that the same applied to reported posts on the old IMDb·Com message boards.

I don't think there's a way to query that. Unless you're willing to do some work.

Here's what I suggest (this is on the desktop version of IMDb):

  1. Create a custom list where you're going to record each title that you've reviewed.
  2. Go through your list of reviews (Activity Page > Quick Links: Reviews), and add each title to the list
  3. I'd even go so far as to record the permalink of the review in the comment field of the title.

BTW, if you're not using the pre-assigned Checkins list for anything, that would make a great place to store these, or even if you are, it would be a great way to build the list if you're going to add the permalink for each title. I say that because on a title page, you can click the Share link, and one of the options is Checkins, and you can enter the comment directly on that screen. So you'd only need 2 tabs open (the list of Reviews, and each title). If you don't want Checkins as the final location, you can move them to a custom list when you're done.

Once you've built this custom list, you can use Advanced Title Search to find the titles you've Rated, but that are not on your custom list of reviews.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

I got lucky and someone found the missing reviews. I will try to come back to the method you suggested when I have time to do so

Cheers

Note: in addition to storing the permalink in the list comments, you could actually paste a copy of the review itself there too.
