Here's a proper name keyword curiosity

This glitch has nothing to do (apparently) with "-the-character" being replaced with "-character."  Again, try correcting "johann-wolfgang-goethe" to "johann-wolfgang-von-goethe-character" and see what happens.

So, names ending with "the" are the problem, with a false assumption that it is an incorrect intro to the word "character."  Dashes are apparently ignored.  How does one solve this example, which may be a rare exception?

It looks that way. The software is doing an invalid match, probably seeing if the keyword ends in "the-character" while it should compare to see if it ends in "-the-character". Adding the extra dash would keep it from matching names that end in "the".

Lo and behold!  I added that extra dash after "goethe" and before "character," as "johann-wolfgang-von-goethe--character," and, even though that is incorrect formatting, it has been accepted!  This may well be a "once I'm a lifetime" situation, but the guideline could say: "If the proper name ends in the letters "t," "h" and "e," two dashes must appear before the word "character"-- or, the software could be changed so it acknowledges the correct placement of dashes.  Neither is probably going to happen.

While your work around will get the keyword added, IMDb really needs to check the software. I'm pretty sure what I posted above is true. If they did better pattern matching at the end of the line, this would not be an issue.
