Genres showing on all episodes of anthologies?

I've never clocked this before, but I was looking at Play For Today, which has the genres of "drama" and "comedy": https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165592

Now, this is fine, as some of them definitely ARE a comedy. But some of them... aren't.

I tried to edit the genre from an episode page, but it won't let me - it'll let me remove "drama", but not "comedy". Having just watched an episode about a woman having a nervous breakdown - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0498749 - it's not one that should have "comedy" listed against it.

But if it's on the main title, does it display on them all?

Any genres which are associated with the main parent level for a series (e.g. The Simpsons main page) are automatically derived onto each individual episode (e.g. Treehouse of Horror episode page).

To reduce duplication of the existing data, we do not allow Genres to be added to individual episodes. Please only add Genres to the parent series page - Genres submitted to the TV series page should be relevant to, and describe the entire series.

@bderoes That's fair enough. It's just a bit weird when you look at a play about someone having a nervous breakdown and topping themselves, then see "comedy" next to it.

I agree with you. Perhaps the series should not have comedy and drama keywords.

One of these would be better:

anthology (3105 titles)
anthology-film (364 titles)
anthology-series (96 titles)

Hi MovieCat -

Thanks for your feedback, I understand that there are certain series titles, such as for anthology series, where the content per episode may not be reflective of one another, and the overall series genres may not be applicable to all episodes.

Currently, as bderoes mentioned above, the genre display on episode titles is automatic based on the series title genres.  I have forwarded your comments and this series/episode title example to the appropriate team for visibility on future Genre improvements.

Cheers!
