Genre Overload

All the Star Trek series have 3 or 4 genres listed. TOS, TNG, VOY have Action Adventure Sci-Fi. DS9, ENT, DIS, PIC add Drama.

Shouldn't there be just ONE genre, the obvious Sci-Fi? SOME episodes have drama in them, others have action, but certainly not all. Some plots involve an adventure. The only genre you know for sure applies to EVERY episode is Sci-Fi.

The others are superfluous and should be removed IMO.

It looks odd because they're listed alphabetically on the page and Sci-Fi comes last, as if it's minor. The individual episode pages it propagates to, display at the top only the first two! That's what made me notice. All Star Trek episodes' genres show in the header as Action Adventure, and that's it.

When you say the top of pages display only two genres, do you have reference view enabled? I believe the regular pages display three. (That doesn't change your point, though.)

@Peter_pbn Yes reference view displays only the first two under the title. Near the bottom you get all four. In horrible regular view, Star Trek Discovery is listed as an Action Adventure Drama. All 4 are listed in the details at the bottom.

Of course this could be solved if the genres could be ordered. Main one (sci-fi) first, then others in order of importance or obviousness. Forcing alphabetical makes it look like movies and TV are top-heavy with Action Adventures (of course it might be...)

I agree that ”Sci-fi” should be the only genre. Perhaps ”drama” also, but that’s it.

Hi Mvybuf -

If there are incorrect genres listed on episodes of this series, meaning that the genre doesn't relate to the main driving force behind the story arc, you will need to request the removal of the genre through our online Update form for our editors to review.

For more information on genre guidelines and submitting updates I encourage you to review our Genre Help Guide.

Cheers!

@Michelle Obviously, I know that. The purpose of this post was to solicit opinions, and to point out a potential display flaw. Now you've marked this thread "answered", which stalls the conversation. Perhaps I should repost. If you have opinions on the issues, I welcome them, but if you just want to throw guidelines at me to shut me up, and flag the thread to stop the community's discussion of this matter, your comments and actions are NOT welcome.

The community can continue a discussion even if a thread is marked solved. But this is also an IMDb support forum. I think most of us appreciate that IMDb staff responds to posts.
