Filmography / Music Credits

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for guidance on how to submit a credit for a song I worked on in a 2004 movie. On-screen, I’m listed as a co-writer of the song, and my publishing company PWNETD is credited, but in reality I produced, recorded, and mixed the track for the band.

I have a contract with the band from that time, and BMI documentation showing usage. Given this, what credit category should I submit under to accurately reflect my role? For example, would “Music Producer” be appropriate, or should it be limited to “Writer”?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Hi, hkpwnetd:

what credit category should I submit under to accurately reflect my role?

First you need to remember the following basic policy:

.

Therefore, without knowing further information, your credit is likely to be confined to the Soundtrack section. If so, the entry should reflect what the on-screen credits say, hence you should be listed as a co-writer of the song only. Currently, in accordance with the guidelines, only composers or performers (unlike producers, recordists or mixers) seem to be eligible for an (uncredited) entry in that section.

Thanks for your explanation.  Can you confirm that this would be the proper submission in this case?

No, sorry, that's not correct.

Please reread the part I've highlighted in yellow in my first post. Your name appears exclusively in the soundtrack section of the credits, so that's where your [link=] should be added (NOT in the Music Department).

.

The form should look like this:

I've already submitted it for you: #260330-141132-167000

Cheers!

Thank you for your guidance!  Can you help with one more?  I found the Soundtracks category, but it doesn't appear to have a place for me to upload a screenshot for evidence.  Below is my attempt at filling out the submission as well as a screenshot from the feature.  I'm also not sure how to link my name the way you did on the previous submission.   Here's the URL for feature  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289879/?ref_=nm_flmg_job_1_accord_1_cdt_t_1

Hi, Howard:

Here's the URL for feature  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289879

Sorry, I think you're confused. That screenshot you posted isn't from The Butterfly Effect (2004) (tt0289879). If you're going to add a new song to the soundtrack, you should first make sure you're on the right title page.

I found the Soundtracks category, but it doesn't appear to have a place for me to upload a screenshot for evidence.

You are correct. Unlike other categories, the form for soundtrack entries does not include the  [+Add evidence...] link for directly uploading files to IMDb. In this case, you must use the Explanation box to provide a justification or include an external link to the evidence (an URL to Imgur with the screengrabs, for example).

Below is my attempt at filling out the submission [...] I'm also not sure how to link my name the way you did on the previous submission.

Please first see this guide. Your nconst is nm7912069. As always, try to format your submission to match what appears in the on-screen credits (there's no need to break “Written by” and “Performed by” into two separate lines because the system will correctly identify both roles and list them separately on your page), and do not forget to add the proper order number; something like this:

@ljdoncel Sorry for any confusion, I added my second question to this thread since the entry process was related to my previous question.  This new entry would be for a different feature called "Forgotten" (2022), please see the URL I previously posted.  I'm not able to supply an order number since this feature didn't have a separate music soundtrack release outside of the feature.  The director requested that I create the song for the feature, so it could have been considered a music cue within the score.  As is shown in the screenshot of the end credits, the director has it listed as a full song (which is the same way I have it registered through BMI).  In addition to getting your advisement on this entry, would it be okay to supply a screenshot (as evidence) from a public Google Drive folder (if I prefer not to start an account with Imgur)?

There are many misconceptions that need to be addressed:

This new entry would be for a different feature called "Forgotten" (2022), please see the URL I previously posted.

The URL you posted belongs to The Butterfly Effect (2004) (tt0289879). The correct URL would be this one: Forgotten (2022) (tt20869378).

I'm not able to supply an order number since this feature didn't have a separate music soundtrack release outside of the feature.

The order number comes from the order in the on-screen credits of the film, not from a separate music soundtrack release.

Your song is in position #11 of the soundtrack list.

so it could have been considered a music cue within the score.

If that had been the case, the entry would not be eligible.

In addition to getting your advisement on this entry, would it be okay to supply a screenshot (as evidence) from a public Google Drive folder (if I prefer not to start an account with Imgur)?

I've already seen the on-screen credits, and submitted the changes (#260331-174620-574000), so I don't need access to them. Nevertheless, for any future submissions you make to IMDb, a link to a public Google drive folder would indeed be a valid way to submit evidence you can include in the “Explanation” box.

(by the way, you don't need to create an account on Imgur to upload images or videos and create public links)
