Film release is incorrect and impacting distribution options

Our film screened at a few film festivals, but since has gone through many changes and is no longer the same film. Because of this, the year is listed as 2023 for release (despite never having been released). Distributors won't touch a film older than a year (for a new release) and we want them to seriously consider our film. How to amend to 2024? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15908942/

Charles: For clarity, screening at a film festival does count as a release for IMDb purposes and does affect the year in parentheses after the title. See https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/release-dates/GVUUDEPJNAW6G35P# where this is indicated: "The year shown at the top of the title is a direct reflection of the title's initial release date - this includes any festival release dates."

@gromit82 But what if the title has gone through major changes since then? The issue is, we're entering distribution phase, and the year is making it seem older than it is, and is costing us potential buyers.

Hello charlesbeale,

Can you clarify what major changes differentiate the new version of the film from the original version?

if there were significant changes such as: a new cast/crew, different narrative arc, new footage, etc- this is when we would consider a separate new title listing.  However, we very rarely list a new title page for a revised title, which would require significant changes from the original release.
