Facilities Incorrectly Added as Producers

Hi,

I have noticed a number of companies incorrectly added to the post production and producer credits sections. These sections are for people who have been hired by the production company to producer and post producer/supervise/coordinators. I don't know if they have added themselves or IMDB automatically places in these sections when they add certain job titles.

Facility staff who do jobs with similar names belong in the company section under their company staff, not in the post production and producer sections as this would suggest to any industry person that the facility staff were hired as individuals to produce and post produce/supervise/coordinate the show. The names are similar but the job roles are completely different and have a different level of engagement with the show. I work as a PPS and start in prep and leave a while after the facility has done their delivery. The facility is on board for a relatively short amount of time in the overall schedule. I am paid by the production company. Facility staff are paid by the facility. I have direct duties and responsibilities to the producers, the facility have direct duties and responsibilities to the facility.

The grouping of these people misrepresents the work that they do and that I do.

The incorrect placing of these credits also has a significant impact on the production and the people who genuinely do the jobs they are claiming to do.

Someone has also add the sub category if Post Production to the Producer credits. This is a nonsense. A Post Producer is a legitimate credit for someone hired directly by the production company to produce post - there is no such person credit as Post Production.

Facility staff passing for production hired producers has an effect on rights assignments and lability. When a producer is hired by production, they have a number of rights that they assign to the production company and third-parties which becomes of the chain of rights that flow to the distributor. These facility are inserting themselves into that chain without any legal basis.

I can understand why facilities (who do play a key part in the creative output of the show) do not want to be listed with equipment hire companies or travel companies, etc, but there needs to be a clear separation of production company hires and facility staff who are credited on screen so that each person can accurately convey to the world what work they did on a show.

Here is one example.

Splice Post has add Post Production as a credit in the producer section on many shows. This is not a credit and you will not find it in the credits if you watch the show.

On Dreaming Whilst Black, Ramit Anchal from Splice his listed as Post Production Executive in the Producer sections which tells everyone that he was the Post Production Executive at the production company EXCEPT he was no such thing. He was the Post Producer/ Post Production Executive for the facility Splice Post. Therefore, he should be in the company staff section and listed under miscellaneous credits or some other section.

A better way to solve this issue would be to create a 'Facility' category. Every single show uses facilities so it seems strange they do not have their own category.

Hi @Moushka -

Companies should not have name pages, please let us know if you find any, the example above was deleted.

Cheers!
