"Evidence" for Gender Identity

Asking for "evidence" before allowing someone to change their gender identity listed on their profile seems incredibly odd to me. Gender identity is such an incredibly personal thing and there is very little most people can do to "prove" the validity of their identity. Asking for this is honestly just careless.

I agree.

Also, I'm assuming there is a finite list of gender identities implemented as check boxes or a drop down menu.

I suggest this be changed to a text box, so people can clearly state their individual gender identity(/ies).

Shel: Many of the gender identity changes that IMDb has to process are actually just corrections where a person has been entered into the database with the wrong gender (not situations involving transgender people).

In such a situation, the "evidence" IMDb would be looking for would be a web page where the person is clearly referred to by their correct gender.

So, for example, earlier this year, I submitted a correction for a male animator who had been mistakenly entered into IMDb as a female. The explanation I submitted went something like this (mostly redacted):

See [URL #1] which refers to [the person] as "he". See also https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/[person's name] (includes a photo and refers to [person] as "he") and [URL #2] (which also refers to [person] as "he"). In addition, the trivia entry here on IMDb for him at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm_________/trivia/ also refers to him as "he".
