Ed Wood is alive?????

I mean today I was exploring IMDb and visited the page of the legendary Edward D. Wood Jr. (considered by many people the worst director of all time).

Apparently and suddenly he won 17 awards and other 10 nominations just last year (2021) for just being a thankful credit in a short experimental movie that is not available anywhere: Astronaut's UniformJust a weird trailer that is available here.

It's clearly this people from this short movie are using him (and why him lol) to get more views or idk, saying that he worked with him? lol

I wish IMDb team started to pay more attention to this details, cause many people are getting spammed more often in their credits.

It seems weird that has a dedicatee, he was awarded prizes in festivals. However, it isn't uncommon for famous people to receive "thanks" credits.

PS According to me, the claim that he is cinema's worst director is ludicrous. If people saw what amateurs were capable of they do be disgusted. Even if we're talking about professional directors, it is hard to say that Ed Wood is the worst. The more you approach the peak of cinema, the less contenders there are for "greatest directors" (Kubrick, Hitchcock, Bresson, Bergman, Fellini, Scorsese, Truffaut, Ford, etc.) However, the more you approach the very bottom of cinema, the more there are utterly incapable people such as myself. 0.1% of cinema's talent are producing 99.99% of cinema's greatest film. You probably have ten thousand direct-to-dvd directors for every Hitchcock, and then, ten thousand worthless amateur (like me) for every direct-to-dvd directors. Seriously, IMDb lists 500 961 feature films. Only 106 071 (21%) have more than 100 votes, only 36 881 (7%) have more than 1000 votes, only 5890 films (1%) have more than than 25 000 votes and would be considered for IMDb's Top 250 and Ed Wood's Planet 9 from Outer Space would be one of them. In fact, if you look at Planet from Outer Space's stats (3.9 rating for 38 902 film), only 4 472 films (0,9%) surpasses it. It is a mere aproximation, it doesn't take into account the number of quality films that have less than 39 000 votes, but nevertheless, one could argue that Ed Wood's Planet 9 from Outer Space is more successful among IMDb users than 99.1% of all the films in cinema's history.

@cinephile I mean I agree with you. The imagination that Ed Wood had in his own projects and the passion that he devoted to cinema alone is more than I can say for may popular directors from nowadays. I feel people like him or Florence Foster Jenkins they were artists in their own terms, and nowadays if they are known for Worst Director or Worst Singer, they're great example of what they did with their work, for how much they fight to accomplished their dreams.

I think the work of Wood is campy and very inspiring for a young director and i don't think it's offensive being called the "worst director" - that's the reason Ed Wood won all the fame, inspired Tim Burton directing an Oscar Winning movie about his life and make thousands of people watching and understanding his own camp and cult fimography.

M&M: I looked at the awards for Wood at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000248/awards/ and found that it was being claimed that for every one of these awards and nominations, it was claimed that the award/nomination was shared by the director, three cast members, and Wood as dedicatee. The categories in which these awards were being given were things like "Best Experimental Short Film".

This sounded fake to begin with. When IMDb lists the person associated with an award, we are supposed to follow the policy of the award event as to which person is the award recipient. So, for example, for the Oscar for Best Picture, the producer is the honoree (not the director), and for the Oscar for Best International Feature Film, the submitting country is the honoree (also not the director, and not any other individual either).

On the other hand, at most film festivals, when a film is honored, typically the honoree is the director (only). In a category like "Best Experimental Short Film", I would expect only the director to be named as the honoree. I would not expect any of the actors to share in the award in that category.

And I would never expect a dedicatee to share in any film award in any category.

It was difficult to find verification of many of the awards for the film Astronaut's Uniform because (a) some of the festivals did not have web sites accessible, (b) others did not have their lists of award winners accessible, and (c) most of these award events are monthly events and it was hard to find the right monthly listing. But I did find confirmation of the "World Indie Film Awards" for January 2022. And this film did win their Best Experimental Short for that month:

Notice that the only person mentioned in association with the film is the director: "Directed by Dmitri Frolov, Russian Federation".
So not only should Ed Wood be removed from this award listing, so should the three cast members. And, most likely, Wood and the three cast members should be removed from  all of the awards and nominations for this film. It is rare enough for the cast to be included in an honor like this, and nonexistent for a dedicatee to be included.
The chance that this filmmaker found  twenty other festivals and award events which all included not just the director, but three cast members and the dedicatee, in the same honor, seems to be zero.

@gromit82 this! This is exactly what it's happening. I feel the person who associate heir short film "Astronaut's Uniform" to those awards lists is like "Oh! I really want our movie to be associated with Ed Wood IMDb page, so let's add him in the awards list and I will put the cast members to to seem less suspicious."

I mean I feel Ed Wood should receive some kind of honor from a festival or association but like a honorary one from his own work and his own career, he was the pioneer in the Cult genre, but not from a short movie that he's nothing to do with him and looks like an "ego" situation. Many of us are trying to accomplish something in this business, but doing it like this? It's sad, just sad.

Hi movies_and_movies & all-

First, thank you for reporting this and bringing it to our attention!

Second, I have been doing further investigations on the awards for this title Astronaut's Uniform (2021) along with Edward D. Wood Jr.'s name page and as gromit82 explained above as well, only the recipients reflected on the official listings of Awards are to be included as per our guidelines. I found some of these awards to be duplicated and also some that were wrongly added or not corrected properly.

I have now fix this issue and the changes are already live on the site. I have also taken some further steps to prevent it.

Thank you again for reporting!

Cheers!
