Duplicate Keywords - List #30 (Proposals for Permanent Merger and Auto-Conversion) (transportation keywords)

Here is the next installment of my lists of proposed keywords for permanent merger and auto-conversion.

I am posting this for fellow contributors to review first and raise any objections or questions. I will wait at least seven days before changing this post to a "problem" post and asking IMDb staff to make the proposed changes.

The mergers and auto-conversions should be made in the direction of the arrows.

@Michelle

In reviewing my list, I realized that I made a mistake on one of these mergers. I meant to merge the "train-track" keywords into "train-track" rather than "train-tracks." That's because of IMDb's preference for singular keywords, plus the dictionary definition of "track" is "a structure consisting of a pair of parallel lines of rails with their crossties, on which a railroad train, trolley, or the like runs." So despite common usage otherwise, the word "track" already inherently includes both railroad ties in a track.

Is it possible to change the mergers so that "train-tracks" merges into "train-track?"

Why is car (8125 titles) a keyword at all?!

@abdurahman

It's okay for "car" to be a keyword, but it is severely overused.

One contributor in particular has added many duplicate keywords ("car," "motor-vehicle," "automobile") to each title, plus the model and make of each car shown in the title ("ford," "ford-motor-vehicle," "ford-car," "ford-mustang," "ford-crown-victoria," "volkswagen," "volkswagen-motor-vehicle," "toyota-motor-vehicle," etc.), then the countries where all the cars were manufactured ("u.s.-car," "german-car," "swedish-car," "japanese-car"). It's worse than all the nudity keywords.

I could understand adding these keywords to films and shows that focus specifically on different types of cars (like where the theme is auto repair or the entire movie is about driving cars or something). But to add all these keywords to all titles that just happen to include a car (which is most titles) is just plain weird.

Here's an example to show what I'm talking about:

https://www.imdb.com/search/keyword/?keywords=automobile%2Ccar%2Cford%2Cford-car%2Cford-motor-vehicle%2Cu.s.-car%2Cmotor-vehicle&ref_=kw_ref_key&sort=moviemeter,asc&mode=detail&page=1

@abdurahman Dang. Just in the last 2 months, the number of titles with "car" as a keyword has increased to more than 20,000 titles. It is now one of the most popular keywords on IMDb.

Looks like somebody has added "car" to thousands of TV episodes, which accounts for much of the increase. Take this show, for example, where somebody added "car" to every episode of this Spanish gameshow, I guess because a car was a potential prize. Seems like overkill.
