Duplicate Keywords List #2 - Formal Proposal for Permanent Merging and Auto-Conversion

@Michelle

I have done some further mapping of keywords on IMDb and at this time would like to formally propose the following keywords for permanent merging and auto-conversion.

These keywords have all been vetted by the IMDb community (see this thread). That thread also shows the numbers for each keyword. There has been no opposition to merging any of these keywords. (There were questions raised about a couple other keywords that were originally on the list, which I have now removed).

cellphone  ---> cellular-telephone ---> cell-phone

clay-animation   ---> claymation

colour-in-episode-title  ---> color-in-episode-title

death-by-fall   ---> death-by-falling  ---> death-from-a-fall  ---> fall-to-death  ---> falling-to-one's-death  ---> falling-to-death

eye-witness   ---> eyewitness

frameup   ---> frame-up

imposter  ---> impostor

loss-of-memory  ---> memory-loss

make-up ---> makeup

racial-relations  ---> race-relations

reflection-in-mirror  ---> reflection-in-a-mirror

school-teacher  ---> schoolteacher

secret-passage ---> secret-passageway

suicide-thoughts  ---> suicidal-thought  ---> suicidal-thoughts

switching-bodies ---> switch-bodies ---> body-switching

teen-prostitute ---> teenage-prostitute

Finally, please check out these two duplicate keywords, the second of which contains an obvious typo (the apostrophe at the beginning). These two keywords should be merged as well:

japanese-schoolgirl (514 titles)
'japanese-schoolgirl (91 titles)

Hi keyword_expert -

These Keywords have been merged accordingly and the auto-conversion has been completed.  These changes should be live on the site shortly.

Cheers!

Hi Michelle,

I double-checked the keywords, and I believe the following mergers might have been overlooked, unless there is either a lag in the results showing up, or if staff decided not to make these particular changes for now.

cellular-telephone (60 titles) ---> cell-phone (5769 titles)

switching-bodies (76 titles) ---> switch-bodies (11 titles) ---> body-switching (138 titles)

Also, when I copied and pasted the list for my post, I accidentally omitted the first entry at the top of the list. I apologize for the oversight. Can this merger/auto-conversion be made as well?

car-driving (416 titles)  ---> driving-car (62 titles)  ---> driving-a-car (644 titles)

As for the "body-switching" keywords, perhaps that warrants further discussion, including a related topic of whether there is any difference between "body-switching" and a "body-swap." Maybe I should create a new post for that discussion.

In my mind, "body-switching" is used for titles where a character switches out his or her body for a different body, while a "body-swap" is slightly more narrow: it involves a title where two characters switch out for each other's bodies. But I do recognize that many people use these two terms interchangably.

Hi keyword_expert -

The additional Keyword updates have now been pushed through and the changes should be live on the site shortly.

My understanding of the terms is that, "swap" or swapping" means an exchange of two comparable things, to exchange or give (something) in an exchange (for something else), whereas switch solely means to exchange.  So there is argument for a slight difference.

So "body-switching" could indicate that one identity has exchanged their body for another, whereas "body-swapping" would indicate that each identity is making the exchange with one another.

Cheers!

Thank you!

And yes, the way you've described it is exactly how I see the differences between "body-switching" and "body-swapping." But I do want to point out that many people (most people?)  seem to use these two terms interchangeably.

There are also the keywords "soul-transference" and "mind-transference," which as I understand it are both very similar to the "body-switching" plot element--they are just focusing on the mind or soul, rather than the body.
