Solved

Does a book count as a TV series? No.

A contributor, and I suspect it is just one person, has added at least five "TV series" to the database which appear to just be books. Most of these books have been adapted as films, but not all of them, and the real film adaptations are already listed in IMDb.

All of the examples I have found involve books written by Roald Dahl. The titles in question are:

Here are some reasons to believe that these entries are bogus:

  1. Each of these supposed TV series is listed as premiering in the year the corresponding novel was published, which would be quite unusual for a book adaptation.
  2. The primary image for each supposed series is an image of the cover of the corresponding novel.
  3. None of these titles list any crew.
  4. None of these titles list any cast other than Roald Dahl himself.
  5. None of these titles has a production company or a distributor listed.
  6. All of these titles list the same link as an external site: https://.microsoft.com/ which is not even a well-formed URL (note the dot before the word "microsoft"), much less would it have anything to do with these titles if it were valid.
  7. For the series which have episodes listed ("James and the Giant Peach", "The Witches", "Matilda") all of the episodes have the same release date, something which was not done prior to the streaming era, much less in 1961, 1983, or 1988.

Therefore, I suggest that not only should these "TV series" be deleted, but the staff should check the contributions of the submitter to see if they have tried to submit novels by any other author as bogus TV series, besides Roald Dahl.

Hi @gromit82 -

I'm following up to confirm that all these titles were reviewed and removed.  We have also taken the appropriate actions against the contributor responsible.  Thanks for catching and reporting!
