Discover Channel's "Shark Week" listed as a TV series (eh?)
A time-honored summer tradition as folks flock to the beaches is Discovery Channel's annual "Shark Week," a marathon of various documentaries about sharks.
Some well-meaning soul has grouped them together under the umbrella TV series "Shark Week," but I would think that's not right, that they should just be unrelated specials, and that's the reason for my question.
PS: But if they should be all grouped under individual titles, I am not volunteering to take that on!

I think it's always been that way, it's just a shame it's not been maintained as well as it could be.
I think it could've been done this way because each years set of docs has been referred to as 'Season' and even been released in the past as Season boxsets on home media, I think Seasons 20 to 25 did get DVD sets and they've even been released as yearly Seasons on Amazon Video, so they are largely viewed as TV Seasons. I think splitting them into 100's of lone specials would take ages and even flood people's page with lots of extra credits, it could also make them harder to find, harder to see which ones aren't listed. It could also make future installments more work to add, starting 24 new pages is harder than adding 24 episodes, so whoever adds them (not me btw) may not bother.

Hi Badger & VonPunk -
It's likely that we have allowed to categorize "Shark Week" as a TV Series on the site because this is an annual programming block of specials aired by Discovery.
To clarify further how these unique programming blocks should be listed on the site, I have filed a ticket to the appropriate team to review our policy and determine if this series should remain listed as-is, or if this is not eligible as a series and the specials should be listed as standalone title specials.
As soon as I have an update I will relay the information here.
Cheers!

Hi All -
My sincere apologies for the delay on providing a policy. I can confirm that these programming block listings are handled on a case-by-case basis, dependent upon how the title was marketed.
So the type listing depends on whether the title(s) are marketed and aired as part of their own separate TV series, or if the whole thing is promoted as a kind of "limited series".
I hope this helps!
