In Progress

De-motivating contributions

I submitted a Hulu video link for a title through the Contact form.

I am copying their response and my reply below.

I'm posting here because this is not the first time I've received such a reply. The most recent prior example _did_ involve an Amazon link, and the reply came back _weeks_ later. But that one included the data, so I just replied back. I just checked, and the link has still not been applied, so I'm including it below.

Lots of room for improvement at the Contact Desk. If they can't pick out the ASIN from an Amazon URL... that's just sad.

If they're not accepting non-Amazon streaming links, even though you provide Hulu Watch Options...

...then SAY SO, _instead_ of quoting boilerplate that I don't need.

[My reply to today's "Your IMDb Inquiry" email:]

Your response was boilerplate, with no indication what was actually "wrong".
I provided everything required. But it was a Hulu link, not Amazon.
Your reply did not include the data I provided, so now I would have to _remember_ which title it was, and research the link I was trying to add. (This was a Contact form contribution, not part of the Contribution system.)
You are de-motivating me from contributing.

Thank you for contacting us. In order to create a link between a title page and Amazon we'll need the following:

- The exact title of the film and its URL on our site. For example: Logan (2017) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3315342/
- The ASIN (product number) of the product on sale on the Amazon site. The ASIN (or ISBN for books) is a unique number used to identify each item in the Amazon.com store. ASINs are displayed on the product information page for each item in the Product Details section and/or in the page URL. For example:

B0000E6FMC
B0000A5A1K

Please note not all products on sale on Amazon can be linked to films/titles listed on IMDb. We can currently only link to video content (on DVD, Blu-Ray or streaming video), not books, music or other items, and we can only link to content available directly from Amazon.com, not sold by other subsidiaries or third-party sellers.

In some cases, due to technical limitations, certain products may not be available for linking even they are sold on Amazon.com.

Best regards,

Response from the Contact desk to my reply, which is still a bit indirect in its content. But it would have been more appropriate as a first response, especially if it had included the original data so I could see which contribution it was talking about.

Thank you for reaching out regarding this.

However please note that some links are managed via the discretion of our editorial team based on partnerships. Because of this we are unable to provide any further support around this for you.

Hi bderoes -

Thanks for reporting, I apologize for the insufficient support you received while contacting our support team with your Watch Option requests.  I have alerted the applicable team of these errors for visibility.

In the meantime, I have also now filed a ticket for the matching request for "A Very British Scandal" and it's related episode titles.  For the Hulu request you referenced, can you clarify the details for this request (the IMDb title and Hulu link)?

Hi @bderoes -

Thanks for the additional details, I have also filed a Watch Option request to match the title "Truth and Lies: Monica and Bill" with the Hulu streaming option.

Cheers!
