Deleting duplicate photos

Thanks. I'm sure I'll have another big list eventually. I'll only bother you guys with the ones that won't delete just by the usual way.
So how does it work usually? Say image 1 and image 2 are exactly the same or one is great and the other is dark and murky. Do I report it from the good image or the murky image? Or does it not matter? If I see a dark and murky image and I know where to get a clean high res replacement I upload it and then report the two images as being duplicates and sometimes the new clean one is the one that gets deleted. Is there a way to avoid that?

Speaking of dark and murky, I was just uploading images for Doctor Strange. I noticed dark and murky images were being uploaded by someone at the same time. I don't want to step on anyone's toes but my instinct is to replace them with bright clean versions.

I'm also collecting list for the following: 
People with unfortunate headshots. One guy has his photo upside down. One woman has a headshot that is a film cast shot. I'll try to wait until I have a good amount rather than bothering you guys one at a time.
Also there are a bunch of actors from Star Wars that are not listed as actors but as stunts. The actors have dialogue and the characters have names so they should be listed correctly. There are a handful. Granted a lot of the smaller roles weren't originally credited in the film. They have since been given names and the actors names have been researched by Star Wars nerds. I'll let you know the list soon.
