Declined

Seems like every time I write a negative review about anything it gets declined. Is that why everything is 9 stars on IMDB nowadays? Is it a total fix to stop the bad ones getting through?

Could someone please tell me why 230604-210408-053904 was declined and then my rework of the same thing 230605-212215-668404?

It's always the same "ReasonDoes not meet contribution guidelines." and a link to this ridiculous A-Z page of a billion links that get you no closer to the answer https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/contribution-information/submission-guides-a-z/GWBAHK9SAMVR3DP5#

There is nothing negative or offensive in my original review. The second one has a little dig at IMDB, but other than that it's also fine. Please can I have some actual guidance here so I can post my review of this terrible movie. Thank you.

Hi @georgekaz -

230604-210408-053904 contains a comment that goes against our guideline:

  • Expressions of hatred or intolerance for people on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender or gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability, including by promoting organizations with such views.

230605-212215-668404 contains some comments about IMDb not accepting your review. Please keep in mind reviews must focus on the content of the title.

Please resubmit following our guidelines so we can approve.

Cheers!

@Bethanny I've added comments. I disagree that my post should be marked as solved. It's not solved, it's responded to.

Thank you.

I absolutely reject that I have made any comments of such sort.

  • Expressions of hatred or intolerance for people on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender or gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability, including by promoting organizations with such views.

Where? Please copy them from my review into this discussion so they are there for people to see this apparent hatred or intolerance. In fact, I know you won't do that so I'll do it myself.

Assuming it's one of these two comments which is classed as "hatred", which is it?

"It appears to have been written in the universe where the baddy has targeted script writers, removing all power to write an entertaining superhero movie."

"There are so many scenes just talking about feelings, and the characters are like a diversity and inclusion policy come to life."

Nobody at IMDB knows which race, ethnicity, nationality, gender or gender identity, religion, sexual orientation I am or if I have any disabilities so I'd love to know who you think I'm targeting.

I've now submitted this review for a third time. 230609-000012-339504

I honestly think this policy is designed to keep bad film reviews away to inflate the numbers. I'm assuming it's related to advertising revenues and corporate tie-ins that IMDB have with the movie industry. I noticed a privacy setting recently that I never chose which was to hide my review score unless I post a review. I'm sure that's to stop the same deflation of scores by people wanting to give a quick score but no review. And finally the requirement for at least 600 characters in the review, when you know that most people who dislike a film aren't willing or able to commit that much effort to a film they dislike.

It's a real shame. I honestly don't trust the scores on IMDB at all, but occasionally want to give my review of something that I thought was really good or really bad. The site still has it's uses, just don't trust the scores!

Hi @georgekaz -

Thanks for your feedback.  I reviewed this latest submission and I didn't find any violating content - with that being said, I can see that it was incorrectly declined.  I understand that you have attempted to submit the review on three separate occasions, unfortunately, I cannot resubmit it on your behalf, but if you submit again and promptly post the 18-digit submission reference number here I can try to catch it.

Hi  @Michelle ,

Thanks for the reply. It's very frustrating having to submit a review 4 times but I've done it again and the number is 230610-124058-274804.

Thank you for your help

Hi @georgekaz -

I was unable to catch the submission in time, however, I can see it was declined again so I investigated further.  There was a line within the review, specifically concerning a political view about inclusion and diversity that was flagged.

I would encourage you to remove that specific line and re-submit and you shouldn't encounter any further issue.  In the meantime, I can see that our User Review guidelines are outdated and I have filed a ticket for the appropriate team to update them accordingly.

Hi @Michelle ,

Although I disagree that it shows a political view, I've censored my post. The comment was simply my opinion that this Spiderman film has been designed around an inclusion and diversity policy that leaves it with so many characters to the detriment of focusing on an interesting story for the main character. Anyway, whatever, I thought it was a terrible film and I would like my review posted so here's a version that IMDB might accept.

The new post Id is 230614-000151-147104

Thanks
