Declined "Unable to Verify" but no one asks me to verify and can't submit verification.

I have several listings on IMDB that have various inaccuracies. For instance, on a few of my short films (I wrote, directed, and produced) I am listed as sound department or camera operator, etc. I submitted these (and other) changes and they get declined because it is "unable to verify." How can I offer any more verification? I am credited as the writer, director, and producer of the films but they won't take my word for it when I say I wasn't the sound guy? What verification do I need? How can I send verification in when no one follows up to request verification?

My problem is not adding a credit. It is removing a credit. I filled out the whole brief explaining how I wrote, direct, and produced the film but did not do sound design (for instance) but that wasn't enough. You can't prove a universal negative so how do I prove I did not do something? I'm dumbfounded that these changes were declined to remove a credit from my own profile.

Does the title have credits onscreen?

Then try providing the credit roll, or screenshots thereof.

The article provides an explanation of how to provide such evidence.

I read the article.

The films do not have credit sequences. They are micro-shorts.

I'm still confused how as the writer, director, and producer, me saying that I was not a sound designer is not sufficient? It's also frustrating that if I don't want to be credited for something on IMDB it won't just take it off my own profile.

I'd suggest you post the 18-digit contribution number(s) here from your prior attempts, and see what an IMDb employee has to say.

Perhaps they need some proof that you are who you say, and not someone trying to vandalize the site.

How did the credits get onto those titles in the first place?

Three of the films listed in this request ticket were from 2012 and I made the original listings. I'm not sure where/how/when the error of the sound editor listing was made.
The third film was from 2009 and I was hired as a camera op but due to the unprofessionalism of the shoot I quit the project on the first day. I do not want to be associated with the project and need my credit removed.

In the ticket it says that I can send more validation instructing - "Please go to your Contribution History, re-load the submission reference and tick the box 'provide an explanation to assist in processing this submission.'"
I have two issues - one, I'm not sure how I can provide any more validation, and two, when I follow these instructions, there is no option, button or tick box saying "provide an explanation to assist in processing this submission." The only option I am given is "Delete selected."

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for trying to help. What is weird is I have been trying to get the 2009 credit taken off since 2009 when I was first credited but that does not show up in my history. Several of the things I have submitted don't seem to show up in my history. I was sure I created the listings for my short films but they don't show up in my submission history. Perhaps IMDB does not have submission history from that long ago? No one else on the (very small) crew would have made the listing and I'm doubtful that a film festival would have created it.

In terms of the 2009 films, unfortunately I can't prove that I didn't get paid. I can't submit an image of a check I never got. I quit verbally and didn't get any other correspondences. I could explain all of this in detail but when I follow the instructions for how to provide additional info, the site does not give me the option that the instructions say it will and I have no way of contacting IMDB for help.

Finally, I am confused by IMDB's philosophy. I would think that IMDB first provides a service to filmmakers, to enable them to list their credits. If a filmmaker does not want a credit, why would IMDB force them to list it? Who does that serve? This lack of service to their primary customers does not make me want to re-sign up for IMDB pro.

Please try to understand my position...

Lets say you get on your IMDB and find that someone added you as the Sound Designer to a short film called "Big Booty." Number one, you don't want to be associated with a film called "Big Booty" and two, you never worked on it...

Now, you follow the standard procedure to report the listing saying you didn't work on the film and the credit is incorrect and needs deleted... but your request gets denied.

So now you follow their instructions for how to send in additional info only to discover that their instructions don't work and no button saying to submit more info appears (if you can get this to work, please let me know how because I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong...).

But even if the button did appear so you could submit additional info to verify... what would you submit to prove that you were not involved in the production? There's no check, there's no emails, the film isn't online... how would you send "irrefutable evidence" that you had no part in the production?

If you have solutions I would be very interested in hearing those ideas because I've exhausted everything I can think of.

Grayson,

The new thread I was encouraging was _not_ about the _policy_, but about the instructions for resubmission, namely the content of only these responses above:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/declined-unable-to-verify-but-no-one-asks-me-to-verify-and-cant-submit-verification/5fa06e03c17a062d6ba3e1da?commentId=5fa2ddda35f40c122b56f768&replyId=5fa4375d917fbb3d65011209

and its immediate successor:
https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/declined-unable-to-verify-but-no-one-asks-me-to-verify-and-cant-submit-verification/5fa06e03c17a062d6ba3e1da?commentId=5fa2ddda35f40c122b56f768&replyId=5fa43e35bd2550531550a0fe

For instance, the screenshot shows the language from Track Contribution, which says to go to Your Contribution History. We have 2 such histories nowadays:

https://contribute.imdb.com/contributions/history

and

https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/history

I think only this older one provides the ability to reopen the contribution for resubmission.

I think it would be better to provide a link to that history.

The words "re-load the submission reference" might be clearer if replaced by "click on the submission reference number".

It might be better to advise us to just resubmit the item, because a contribution may contain a mixture of accepted and declined items. In addition, the software has (an outdated) restriction that you cannot resubmit from the original for 2 weeks, as discussed on another recent thread.
