Credited as "(casting director: )" and not "(casting director)"

Have been working on cleaning up some strange credit entries in the IMDb database, and have stumbled upon several cases where there's an ": " added to the end of a credit.

A good example is Leena Sarvjeet Chaubey (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm12515099/) where almost all the credits are "(casting director: )" instead of just "(casting director)".

It appears that there at some point have been some additional attribute attached to the credit, but that it has been removed, and the delimiter ": " has been left.

Or is there another explanation for this additional information?

Hello @Floydian & everyone!

So sorry for the delayed response, we are working through our backlog.

I have now fixed all the (casting director: ) attributes on the site, they all should show as (casting director) shortly.

It's odd because it's difficult to submit a credit like that in the update form.

Agree. I don't think this has been submitted that way - it appears that some additional information has gone lost at some point.

Had it only been for one person, it could have been a mistake, but have found this issue on several persons and in various departments, so it appears to be a more general issue.

Is there a way that the IMDb staff can have a look at this, and see what might have happened?

This is unusual, I have now removed the irrelevant attribute from Leena Sarvjeet Chaubey's IMDb page.

You mentioned that you have seen this similar attribute issue displayed on other name pages as well, do you recall which specific name pages and attributes where you observed these occurrences?

I've seen this as well and usually I just delete the attribute. Sorry, I can't remember where they were but I assumed someone wasn't too familiar with how to submit things and just fixed it.

Edit: I guess email searching is great. The most recent place I've seen this is on the series Transplant. You can see on this episode which I haven't watched (and thus haven't edited) the "casting director:" attribute.

As @Adrian also mentions, I've usually just been correcting these mistakes when I've stumbled upon them, since they have been one-off's, however finding this many credits with the ": " led me to think that there could be some kind of data corruption happening.

Is there a way for you to trace back to the original submission, and see if it really just is a submission error or if there was some additional information attached, which has since then been lost?

For the cases that I've noticed, this is definitely not a data corruption issue. I've seen it happen to the casting director and they are credited as "casting by" so there should be no attribute at all, in those cases.

From what you've posted, it does look like something else should be there or this is a casting director credit and not a casting department credit.

I noticed credits like these for Ross Meyerson. He is credited on screen with the guild abbreviation "CSA", so I wondered if this was submitted in credits and removed by IMDb's software.
