Credit ordering for a "credit only" (did not appear) credit

In Bramwell S3 Ep 5 tt0531241, the opening titles list just the two main, recurring actors. The closing credits list everyone, normally including those leading actors from the opening titles.

My understanding is that normally IMDB wants the credits in the order of the single list that includes everyone - in this case the closing credits.

But what about if an actress (Jemma Redgrave, in this case) is listed only in the opening titles and not in the closing credits (because she didn't appear in that episode)? Clearly she should have a "credit only" attribute. But should she be listed first (because her name was the very first one to be displayed for that episode) followed by the full closing-credits list? Or should "credits only" actors be listed last, after the closing credits list?

The cast order should still follow the most comprehensive cast list, which is in the end credits. The guidelines do not specify how to order the additional credit from the opening credits, but I believe it is customary to list it last.

In this case, wouldn't the ideal approach be to apply the following rule:

"In some cases (i.e., TV movies), the cast list is split between the opening credits and end credits; in those cases, the two portions should be treated as one long cast list that happens to be interrupted by the actual movie. This also applies to some movies from the 1950s, where a list of the main cast appeared at the beginning, and was then repeated in reverse order at the end, with pictures, followed by additional cast members. I don't believe that applies. In a "split" cast the stars are listed in the opening credits and only the supporting cast is listed in the end credits.

Exactly. Many TV dramas list just the main/recurring actors in the opening titles, and the whole cast (including those leading ones) in the closing credits. Occasionally you get programmes which split the cast: recurring actors only in the opening titles and guest actors only in the closing credits. Holby City experimented with that style for one season, and they screwed it up because they used the same opening title sequence for every episode, so there were a lot of credit-only and uncredited attributes in IMDB to sort out people who were credited but didn't appear or who appeared but weren't in that opening title sequence.

My question relates to that second situation: credited every week but didn't appear in one episode. Sounds as if they should be listed (with credit-only) after the list in the closing credits.

Honestly, it seems to me that the cast is divided, even if only partially. Considering that the cited rule also includes the following addendum, I think it applies to this case: "In cases where an individual appears in both the opening and closing credits, credit order is determined by the more comprehensive list, typically found in the end credits."

In this way, the rule would cover Jemma Redgrave's credit, and the addendum would cover Kevin McMonagle's credit, who appears in both the opening and closing credits.
