Correction to Xandu cast declined

The current cast of Xanadu currently has the following:

...
Sonny Malone (voice)

Cliff Richard is not credited. He is the singing voice for Sonny Malone during the duet with Olivia Newton-John for the song Suddenly as seen in the soundtrack section:

Suddenly
Performed by Olivia Newton-John and Cliff Richard
Words and Music by John Farrar
Arranged by Steve Vining (uncredited)

I've tried to change this credit, twice, to uncredited. First, I just tried to change the existing credit to uncredited. Then, I tried to change the attribute to "singing voice" and "uncredited". Both were declined. The latest attempt was: 210322-125243-839000

There seems to be a well established precedent to have uncredited singing voices, such as in My Fair Lady. (And, honestly, if IMDb wants to bill themselves as the most complete movie database, their policy on uncredited voice work needs to change and be easier to manager. This credit seems valid but is definitely an uncredited voice role).

Hey, thanks for reaching out. As our policy currently does not allow uncredited voice roles, you'll need to remove the credit if it is uncredited.

Thank you!

@Elizabeth

It is not against IMDb policy to have uncredited voice roles. This should meet the exception clause which allows for high profile voices to be added uncredited. A well known singer should be able to added as a cast member as an uncredited singing voice. In fact, I mentioned in my original post that uncredited singing voices already exist in IMDb, though it seems that someone has changed Marni Nixon's credit on My Fair Lady to "Playback vocalist for Audrey Hepburn" and removed the voice attribute. This should be correctly listed as "Eliza Doolittle" (singing voice) (uncredited)

Also, this policy is utterly ridiculous to begin with. You cannot claim to be a comprehensive data when your solution to things is to delete credits. Deleting this credit means that the cast for this movie (and many others) are not comprehensive.

I could just remove the (voice) attribute and then IMDb would gladly accept it. Again, that is just ridiculous. Please change this policy to make sense.

Hey Adrian, thanks for your response! Please see our policy on uncredited voice roles outlined here.

Since you believe this falls under the high profile exception, please provide URL evidence linking to this in our policy documentation in your next correction request and a brief explanation.

@Elizabeth

You should probably read your own link, as the exception clause is clearly stated:

We make rare exceptions to rule #1 for 'voice cameos' by high-profile actors

A well known singer providing a singing voice for an actor meets this standard, in my opinion. But, again, the whole policy is ridiculous. You allow unlimited uncredited on screen appearances that are of marginal nature. This is an important role and one that people would be interested in knowing whether Michael Beck is actually singing with Olivia Newton-John (because she obviously is singing).

Instead of referring to a policy likely written in the beginning of IMDb, we should be talking about whether this policy still makes sense. It doesn't.

The fact that I can literally do this shows how ridiculous the policy is. People will work around the policy when it is nonsensical. (This credit was approved within seconds of submitting it.)

Hi Adrian -

Thanks for your comments regarding the uncredited voice policy, I have passed your feedback along to the appropriate team for visibility.

In the meantime, I can confirm that the credit has now been corrected witht he proper "uncredited" attribute: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081777/fullcredits/

Cheers!

The problem is that it cannot be added with the correct "voice" attribute because IMDb rejects it in this case (though there are quite a few that I know that are listed.)
