Contribution Interface Updates - New Features Now Live

We're excited to announce several improvements to our contribution interface that will make submitting credits easier and more consistent.

What's New:

*Improved Attribute Selection
We've replaced the free-text box with a pop-up featuring tick-boxes for valid attribute options, making selection clearer and more straightforward.

*Renamed field
We have renamed the “Occupation” field to “Role”. We think this is a better description of what is meant to go in it - the role the person had on the title.

*Standardized Crew Credit Fields
All crew credit categories now have both "Role" and "Attribute" fields, making the submission process more consistent. Previously, some credit categories had both an "Occupation" and "Attribute" field, while others only had an "Attribute" field.

*Enhanced Role Selection
The Role drop-down menus now feature carefully curated options that are relevant to each credit category. Previously, this menu contained automatically generated options, many of which contradicted our policies - leading to poor quality and ineligible data.

*Dedicated "Self" Category
You can now submit “self” credits under a dedicated "Self" category, with no more need to use the Actor/Actress categories with "Self" or "Themselves" prefixes.

These updates are now live in the contribution interface. We hope these changes will make your contribution experience more efficient and user-friendly. For a preview of the changes, please see our announcement article at https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/new-features-updates/contribution-interface-updates/G423MQL4MCQJHTHQ#

As always, we appreciate your valuable contributions to IMDb!

Where an episode has actor roles listed as Self, is there a simple way to move them from Self to Actor? Or do I need to delete from Self and re-add to Actor? An example is this episode where only the presenter is a "Self" role. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9648820/

@EanD71- You will need to submit a delete + add contribution. The "Self" credit must first be deleted from the "Self" section, and then you can re-added by submitting it to the "Actor/Actress" section respectively.

@Maya Ahhh thats too much faffing around. I'll give it a miss. I suspect I'll have the removal declined anyway.

Hi.

I noticed, that when you add credits such as "cinematographer: second unit", "cinematographer: New York" or "cinematographer: splinter unit" (etc) to "Camera and Electrical Department", the system first tries to (automatically) move them to the "(main) cinematographers" section. I'm pretty sure this wasn't the case previously. The word "cinematographer" does not always refer to the main dop (there are usually others in bigger productions), but the system seems to think so.

( I mean from the guide: "However, modifications of that job title (assistant cinematographer; director of photography: New York; underwater photographer) are included in this list, e.g. The Avengers (2012). )

Thanks.

Also, if you add "uncredited" person to Self-section, the system gives:

"This credit has been rejected. You need to correct this credit before it will be accepted. You must provide a character name/description for uncredited cast members."
