Confusion around TV series release dates

Hi,

I would love some clarification on the rules regarding TV series release dates. According to IMDb's own rules the release date for a parent show should be derived from the first episode and shouldn't be set for the parent show itself (https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/release-dates/GVUUDEPJNAW6G35P?ref_=helpms_helpart_inline#)

However, I tried to submit a correction for https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11137618/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_ql_dt_2 which has a release date there which isn't following this rule.

I made a submission to delete the incorrect date citing this rule as a reason but this was declined.

Could somebody shed some light on this.

Thanks!

Such series dates are usually added as part of the title submission, where release dates are often required, so I wouldn't say they were wrongly added.

The date in question is not listed on the first episode. If you wanted to move it to the episode level, you could do so by choosing Correct instead of Delete and then selecting the episode in the episode field.

Note that others have asked for this particular series listing to be removed:

@Peter_pbn Thanks for the insights.

This series definitely does have some issues. I was hoping by removing the 2007 date it would correct the odd "2007 - 2010" date that's returned for the show. I have no idea where these dates are coming from besides from the additional entry in the show release date.

It probably would be better if this show was just removed considering it's duplicating a bunch of shorts. I see the last reply was 3 months ago on that thread so likely something that won't happen soon. I'll revive that thread a bit.

Thanks again.

Hi drzoidberg33 -

As I understand, the episode titles listed for "The Three Stooges Collection" were initially aired as standalone film titles, is that correct?  Is this series just a re-released TV series or DVD compilation of the films?

Hi @Michelle

I'm not too familiar with the background story here but it was brought up in a different thread where it was being suggested that this collection be removed as its duplicating existing shorts, I bumped this thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/same-titles-listed-twice/603ad48ab1f7bf2663b3f5c0

That might be the correct course of action as having these separate dates on a TV series is very confusing.
