Conflation of two actors: a deceased Canadian and me both named Michael Wade. How can this be corrected?

I am an English actor named Michael Wade. On your actors listings you have a Canadian Michael Wade who died in 2004. Several of the credits attributed to him are actually my credits, including Lockwood, the lead character in the 'Auton' trilogy, which you say he is best known for! Also 'Cash in Hand', 'A Dance to the Music of Time', 'Thin Ice', 'A Man For All Seasons', and 'Programa do Jô' are mine. Listed under Other Works, The 'Vortigern' credit is also mine and I have other screen credits, two of which are for 2015, that I would like to give you, as well as many for Other Works. I have tried to fill in your online forms, but they are too complicated for me to understand and I keep having to start all over again. Could you please help me rectify this situation and set up my own IMDb listing? I have been in touch with Wikipedia as they have the same errors and they are looking into it. Most of the credits wrongly attributed to the Canadian Michael Wade can easily be verified as mine by viewing my showreel on: www.vimeo.com/michaelwade  or by googling 'Jô Soares Michael Wade'. Jô Soares is the great Brazilian chat show host, so most of the interview is in Portuguese, but it does show some of my work. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Michael Wade.

Michael: I see that this problem is as you have just described it, with Michael Wade (V)'s birth and death dates being reassigned back to you, after they had already been corrected back in December. And not only were Michael Wade (V)'s credits not taken off your page, but Michael Wade (V)'s page has disappeared altogether.

I will try to attract the IMDb staff's attention back to this thread in hopes of resolving the problem. In the meantime, can you please post your last full data submission here on this message board? You can copy it out of the receipt you would have received from IMDb by e-mail immediately after sending it in. (Also, please include the submission reference number -- it's an 18-digit number that will look something like 150123-123456-789000.)

This will enable the contributors here to confirm that you did your part correctly, as well as enabling the staff to look up your submission by reference number and see what went wrong.

Once we get some input from the staff, it should be easier to determine what you need to do to resolve the problems.

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to be a bore but I don't know how to post my last full data submission on this message board. I did receive the receipt from IMDb by email and the reference number is:  151230-013328-333000  Do I have to type it all out again? I hope not as it's rather long and contains all the sentences you suggested verbatim - several times over! If there is some simple way to do it please could you let me know. Sincerely, Michael.

Michael: You should have received an e-mail from IMDb Support with a subject line of "IMDb update receipt #151230-013328-333000". If you can find that e-mail,  just copy the text of it right here.

But if you can't find that e-mail, don't worry about it, because the IMDb staff can still look up your submission by the reference number without the content being posted here. In any event, you don't need to retype anything.

I have just emailed the submission report complete with receipt number back to IMDb and I hope it will appear here very soon. I seem to remember that they have received other messages from me sent in this way despite it being a 'no reply' address. So I hope that that is what you meant by 'copy'! Sincerely, Michael.

Michael: Sorry, no, I meant for you to post the content of your submission right here in this discussion thread, not to e-mail it anywhere.

But I'm afraid I can't see how to post it. Can you give me instructions please?

I've looked everywhere several times and I can't see how to post or copy my submission here. I think post and copy must mean the same thing but if not please can you let me know which is easier and how to do it. Thanks. Michael.

Hello Champion. I haven't yet received a reply to my plea for help to post the email with all the details of my submission here. Are you away? It would be a shame not to get this resolved after all the effort, especially on your part! Yours, Michael.

Michael: Sorry about that. You know how to copy and paste text in a word processing program, right? Well, all I meant was that you should copy the text of your submission from your e-mail, and put it in a message right here in this discussion thread.

But mostly we're waiting for an IMDb staff response, and they can look up your submission by its reference number anyway.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid they still haven't invented an idiot proof computer system so believe it or not I have no idea how to copy and paste! Simple two-fingered typing is about my limit. But if the reference number is sufficient then I'm off the hook so let's wait and see. Thanks again. Michael.

Hi Michael -

I was able to locate the credit corrections you submitted back on December 30th, however, there were several unacknowledged Warnings that prevented the updates from processing.

Within those corrections you mentioned that your page is listed under "Michael Wade
(I)" here, upon reviewing the page it appears that your credits and information are mixed up with another 'Michael Wade'.  Sometimes, especially when two or more people have similar or identical names, correct credits can be associated to the wrong person.

If this is the case, please reply here and identify all the credits and information that belongs to you.  Please make sure you identify all the credits by their full title, not their number/position on the filmography page (numbers are subject to change due to internal reordering).

Michelle: I have asked Michael Wade about which credits were his and which were not his earlier this discussion thread, and he has already answered as to most of them, with the exception of two credits and three trivia items that were added since this thread began.

So in order to simplify this process, here is a list of which are the credits he has identified as his and not his. All of this information is based on what he has confirmed himself; I haven't viewed these titles myself.

Credits belonging to the Michael Wade who started this thread

Auton 3 (1999 Video) as Lockwood
Auton 2: Sentinel (1998 Video) as Lockwood
Cash in Hand (1998) as Terrorist Leader
Auton (1997 Video) as Lockwood
A Dance to the Music of Time (1997 TV Mini-Series), episode "The Thirties" as Dr. Brandreth
Thin Ice (1995) as Mike
A Man for All Seasons (1966) as 2nd servant / 2nd Young Man (uncredited)
Programa do Jô (2012 TV Series), episode dated 26 November 2012 as Himself

Also, the Other Work that begins, "(1997) He acted in the play, "Vortigern-The Great Shakespeare Forgery," in a Tour De Force production ..." is his as well.

Credits not belonging to the Michael Wade who started this thread

The Signal (2007) as Struggling Person / Hallway Body
I'm Disappearing (2004 Short) as Old Man
Misery Harbour (1999) as Stoker
Secret Nation (1992) as Lester Vokey
The Boys of St. Vincent (1992 TV Movie) as Brother MacLaverty
John and the Missus (1987) as Sid Peddigrew
The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood (1986) as RBC News Desk
The Danger Tree (1997 TV Movie documentary) (voice)

Also, the birthdate of October 30, 1944 in Avondale, Newfoundland, Canada is not his, nor is the deathdate of May 22, 2004 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

Undetermined credits (added to the Michael Wade (I) page since this thread began, so I have not asked him about them yet)

Gullage's (1997 TV Series), episode #2.1 as Pis Parsons (1996-1997)
Finding Mary March (1988)

Also, the three following trivia items are new to this page, so I haven't asked him about them:
  • Has four children 2 daughters and 2 sons.
  • Started Newfoundland's First Shakespeare Company in 1984.
  • Huge Bob Dylan fan. Briefly a member of the rock band Ash Wednesday in the 1970s,.he released a solo album as a singer-songwriter, "One Way Love", in 2003.
So if I have everything else correct, Michael needs only to let us know whether the "Gullage's" and "Finding Mary March" credits are his, and whether the three trivia items immediately above are his.

Dear Michelle and Champion, Thank you for your replies. I'm sorry my updates didn't process as I was very careful to do all that was asked of me before I submitted. I couldn't reply until now because the 'get satisfaction' system was down for repairs.

I confirm that all 8 film credits in Champion's message above that are listed as belonging to me do belong to me. The Other Work 'Vortigern' credit also does belong to me. I also confirm that all 8 film credits listed as not belonging to me do not belong to me. The birth and death dates are not mine. The Gullage's and Finding Mary March credits also are not mine. The three trivia items right at the end of Champion's message are not mine.

As I stated earlier in this thread, IMDb's list of my credits is incomplete. I would like to give you the missing credits which include two 2015 films, as well as more Other Work details and my birth date, Champion said it would be better to do this after my IMDb page is up and running and correctly attributed to me, I look forward to a successful outcome. Sincerely,Michael Wade. (British actor born in 1946).

Thanks Michael and gromit82, for clarifying all the information relevant to this split request.

Due to the amount of data and different data sections involved, I have escalated this to our data editors to sort out the appropriate changes.  As soon as I get a status of the split I will post the information here.

Hi Michael, you page has now been split as suggested above.
Your credits are still on http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905482/
The other credits and bio data have been moved to http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5436107/

Apologies that this has taken so long and thank you for your patience.

Also thanks to gromit82 for his explanations and assistance.

Please let us know if there is anything I have missed.

Thanks, Niall.

Now that Michael Wade (I)'s page has been cleaned up, I have some advice for him as to how to get his credits for My Hindu Friend and England, My England onto his page.

Michael: Go to the page of Michael Wade (XVI) at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm7134806/. Click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Name Correction or Merge line, select "Add correction". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, there will be a blank line in which to enter the corrected name. Enter it as:
Wade, Michael (I)

Uncheck the box labeled "Preserve previous name on existing credits. i.e. '(as Michael Wade)'". It doesn't apply in this case.

In the Explanation box, enter something like "I am Michael Wade (I), and the Michael Wade (XVI) page is a duplicate entry for me. All credits on both the Michael Wade (I) and (XVI) pages are mine, and so these pages should be merged." Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, you will get a warning that says, "You are about to merge two separate name pages into one. Are you sure you want to merge this person with Wade, Michael (I)? ..." That's what you want, so check the box marked "Warning understood, go ahead anyway." Click "Re-check these updates".

On the next screen, your data should appear with a green background, and you should be able to click "Submit these updates".

Next, go to the page of Michael John Wade at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905485/. Click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Name Correction or Merge line, select "Add correction". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, there will be a blank line in which to enter the corrected name. Enter it as:
Wade, Michael (I)

This time, however, make sure the box labeled "Preserve previous name on existing credits. i.e. '(as Michael John Wade)'" is checked. This will indicate that for England, My England, you were indeed credited using the middle name John.

In the Explanation box, enter something like "I am Michael Wade (I), and Michael John Wade is a duplicate entry for me. I have used the middle name John in the past, including on the film 'England, My England' (1995) as indicated here, but I no longer use a middle name. All credits on both pages are mine, and so these two name pages should be merged." Click "Check these updates".

Allow a few days for these two name merges to go through. Good luck!

OK, many thanks. I will try to get time to do this if not today then tomorrow. As already stated earlier in this thread, I have other credits which for some reason have never appeared on IMDb. Can we add these after the above has been done? And we seem to have lost the Vortigern 'Other Work' credit to which I would like to add one more. Will this also be possible? Sincerly, Michael.

Michael: You can go ahead now and submit your other credits which have not appeared on IMDb before; you don't need to wait for anything else, because now the Michael Wade (I) page contains only your data and nobody else's.

If the film or television show is already listed in IMDb, go to its page, click "Edit page", and then on the next page select to "Add 1 credit" to the Cast or other department in which you worked. Scroll down and click "Continue", and the process should be reasonably self-explanatory from there.

If you are dealing with a television episode that is not listed in IMDb, but the series of which it is a part is listed, go to the main page for the series and click "Add episode". On the next screen, you will be required to provide at least one of the following pieces of information: the episode title, the original airdate, or the episode number (for example, the first episode of the second season would be episode number 2.1). Again, the process should be reasonably self-explanatory from there.

If you are dealing with a film or other title that is not listed in IMDb at all, it will have to be submitted using the New Title form that begins at https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=title and continues on succeeding screens.

Finally, your appearance in the play Vortigern is indeed listed in your Other Works at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905482/otherworks. You can go ahead and submit any other relevant Other Works as appropriate.

If you run into problems, feel free to come back here and provide all the details.

Dear Champion, I'm blown away by the trouble you continue to take on my behalf. Many thanks. I have successfully requested the merging of the 'My Hindu Friend' (Michael Wade XVI) and 'England my England' (Michael John Wade) pages by following your instructions. Also I updated the Other Work page, though stupidly I did two credits separately when I could have done 2 items on the same update. I hope that won't cause any confusion. They are 'Mutabilitie' (2000) and 'Under Milk Wood' (1992). The latter, directed by and starring Anthony Hopkins with music by George Martin, was also filmed but mysteriously disappeared almost without trace. The only reference to it that I can find on IMDb is a South Bank Show clip wrongly dated 1988 with a much curtailed cast list. There is an Under Milk Wood entry dated 1992, but it's the production which starred Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, so it is wrongly dated. For these reasons I couldn't enter it on my film credits.

I also ran into trouble with my other credits which have not appeared on IMDb before. In the 2015 film 'Little Secret' aka 'Pequeno Segredo', directed by David Schurmann, to be released this year I play Will, but there is not a full cast list yet. In Hector Babenco's 2007 film 'The Past' aka 'El Pasado' I play the English Economist, but again there is no full cast list. In the 2002 film 'The Great Dome Robbery', directed by Gabriel Range, I play Barker. Again no full cast list. In the 1993-1994 ITV series 'Brighton Belles', directed by James Cellan Jones I play Mark. Again no full cast list. In the 1997 Channel Four film 'The Last Witch' I play Brigadier Firebrace. There is no mention of it on IMDB. In the the 1990 HTV films 'Corridors of Power', 'Fight for Manod' and 'Second Generation', all directed by Karl Francis, I play CS Lewis, Needham and Henderson respectively. Again there is no mention of any of these on IMDb.

I hesitate to say this after all you've done, but I hope you can help! Sincerely, Michael.

Michael: When you say "there is not a full cast list yet", I assume you mean that IMDb does not have the full cast listed yet. The full cast lists must exist already, at least for the released projects, even if not all the cast members have been listed on IMDb.

So for the projects Pequeno segredo, El pasado, and The Great Dome Robbery, you will follow the same procedure for each of those titles. Go to the IMDb page for that title and click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Cast line, select "Add 1 credit". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, you will be able to enter your credit. In the Name box, enter your name as:
Wade, Michael (I)

The radio button for "actor" should already be selected by default, but make sure that button is indeed selected (instead of "actress").

In the Character box, enter your character name. Normally you would provide the character name exactly as it appears in the credits of the film, unless there is a really good reason not to do so. (See https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/characters.)

Normally you would leave the Attribute box blank. However, if you were credited by some name other than "Michael Wade" in that particular title, you would indicate that with an attribute in that box, such as the following:
(as Michael John Wade)
for a film where you happened to be credited using that middle name. If your name didn't appear in the credits at all, you would put (uncredited) in the Attribute box.

For the Order box, you would enter the number of the order in which your name was listed in the credits of the film. See https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/order for the rules on that. If you don't know what order your name appeared in the credits and can't find out, you can leave the Order box blank.

Then click "Check these updates". If all goes well, your data should appear on the next screen with a green background, and you should be able to click "Submit these updates".

For "Brighton Belles", the process will be very similar, except that you will need to add your credit to the specific episode(s) in which you appeared (not the main page for the series). See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105961/episodes?year=1993 and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105961/episodes?year=1994. Go to the appropriate episode page and follow the same procedure as above to add your credit to the cast of each episode in which you appeared.

These are going to be more difficult to get added to IMDb, because I am having a hard time finding information about them. For example, BFI Screenonline's list of Karl Francis's credits does not include any of the titles you refer to as having been directed by him (http://www.screenonline.org.uk/people/id/554566/credits.html).

The first thing to do is to confirm whether these films are separate titles or perhaps part of an anthology series along the lines of "BBC2 Play of the Week" (I realize these films were not on the BBC networks, I am just using that as an example). If they were part of an anthology series that is already listed in IMDb, then they will be much easier to get added to IMDb.

Can you find any links to articles or web pages that mention these films being broadcast? If we can find some documentation, we may be able to make some more progress with these titles.

Thanks again. Yes that is what I meant about the cast lists. I think I'll have to settle for Under Milk Wood on my Other Work Credits . It's weird that it's virtually untraceable as the cast alone is amazing. I can't remember even the name of the director of The Last Witch so I'll give up on that one too.

After I wrote my last message to you I remembered that the Karl Francis films, though separately listed on my CV, did indeed comprise three parts of one film, the name of which has been omitted and I can't remember it. I also couldn't find it in Karl's filmography so I emailed him. If I get clearer information from him I can add them later. I will now follow your instructions for the other four. Michael.
