Conflation of two actors: a deceased Canadian and me both named Michael Wade. How can this be corrected?

I am an English actor named Michael Wade. On your actors listings you have a Canadian Michael Wade who died in 2004. Several of the credits attributed to him are actually my credits, including Lockwood, the lead character in the 'Auton' trilogy, which you say he is best known for! Also 'Cash in Hand', 'A Dance to the Music of Time', 'Thin Ice', 'A Man For All Seasons', and 'Programa do Jô' are mine. Listed under Other Works, The 'Vortigern' credit is also mine and I have other screen credits, two of which are for 2015, that I would like to give you, as well as many for Other Works. I have tried to fill in your online forms, but they are too complicated for me to understand and I keep having to start all over again. Could you please help me rectify this situation and set up my own IMDb listing? I have been in touch with Wikipedia as they have the same errors and they are looking into it. Most of the credits wrongly attributed to the Canadian Michael Wade can easily be verified as mine by viewing my showreel on: www.vimeo.com/michaelwade  or by googling 'Jô Soares Michael Wade'. Jô Soares is the great Brazilian chat show host, so most of the interview is in Portuguese, but it does show some of my work. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Michael Wade.

Michael: The contributors here are willing to help, but in order to facilitate these corrections, it will be necessary for you to provide additional information. Otherwise, this will take a lot longer than it might need to.

I see that you are talking about Michael Wade (I) at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905482/. If I understand correctly, the following credits on that page are yours:

Auton 3 (1998 Video) as Lockwood
Auton 2: Sentinel (1998 Video) as Lockwood
Cash in Hand (1997) as Terrorist Leader
Auton (1997 Video) as Lockwood
A Dance to the Music of Time (1997 TV Mini-Series) episode "The Thirties" as Dr. Brandreth
Thin Ice (1995) as Mike
A Man for All Seasons (1966) as 2nd servant / 2nd Young Man (uncredited)
Programa do Jô (2012) episode dated 26 November 2012 as Himself

Also, the Other Work for the play "Vortigern" in 1997 listed at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905482/otherworks is yours.

I take it that the birthdate of October 30, 1944 in Avondale, Newfoundland is not yours.

Is all that correct?

Next, please note that at http://www.imdb.com/find?q=michael%20wade&s=nm&exact=true&ref_=fn_al_nm_ex, there are 18 entries in IMDb for people named Michael Wade. Please click through each of the others (roman numerals II through XVIII) and check whether any of the credits on each of those pages are yours. In other words, don't just look at the one credit listed on that page that says:
Michael Wade (V) (Actor, The Boys of St. Vincent (1992))
but click through to Michael Wade (V)'s page at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1741011/ and see if any of his credits are yours.

That may sound tedious, but several of these "Michael Wade"s have only one credit, so it shouldn't take that long to go through them.

Please list here any of the credits on the other 17 Michael Wade pages that are yours and which page they appear on.

Also, if there is any other data on those pages relating to you, please let us know.

If you have credits and other works that aren't listed on any of these pages, don't worry about listing them yet. They can get added after we have resolved these other issues.

Once we get all the information from above, we can advise you further as to the best way to get your own credits on your own page.

Dear Champion, I have just sent you a reply by email, but then I noticed this reply box so thought you might be more likely to receive it here. Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes indeed, all the credits you mention on Michael Wade (I)'s page are mine. (Just to be sure: all three Autons, Cash in Hand, A Dance to the Music of Time, Thin Ice, A Man For All Seasons, Programa do Jo). Also Vortigern in Other Work is mine.
I FORGOT TO SAY IN THE EMAIL THAT YOU ARE RIGHT IN THINKING THAT THE BIRTH DATE OF OCTOBER 30, 1944 IN AVONDALE, NEWFOUNDLAND IS NOT MINE.
I have looked carefully through the list of 18 Michael Wades as you suggested and only Michael Wade XVI, My Hindu Friend as Dr Feffer is me. However, there is also a page for Michael John Wade, England my England as Thomas Clifford, Baron of Clifford and Chudleigh (sorry about the mouthful, but that's what it says on the cast list!) That is also me. The reason for the middle name is that many years ago British Actors' Equity forced it on me to avoid confusion with a Mike Wade, but I hated it and rarely used it.
As I have already said, Auton as Lockwood and A Dance to the Music of Time as Dr Brandreth and England My England as Clifford can be verified on my showreel on   www.vimeo.com/michaelwade   (without having to speak Portuguese!) although A Man For All Seasons is on the Jo Soares interview in Portuguese.
I have various other credits I will give you in due course, but for the moment thank you once again for your cooperation. Sincerely Michael Wade.

Michael: Thanks, we are making progress here.

I was about to give you instructions on how to move all your credits over to the page of Michael Wade (XVI). But maybe that won't be needed. Just since yesterday, the birthdate and deathdate have been removed from the page of Michael Wade (I) at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905482/. Those dates now appear on the page of Michael Wade (V) at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1741011/. So maybe the deceased Canadian actor is getting moved to Michael Wade (V) so that you can have Michael Wade (I) to yourself? I am not certain of that, but if so, that will make this process simpler.

I am going to try to call the IMDb staff's attention to this thread to see if they are planning to make any other changes to the Michael Wade (I) page -- for example, if they are already planning to take the credits that are not yours off the page.

Once we get confirmation from the IMDb staff as to what they are or are not doing with this page, we can then advise you how to move any other credits onto your page that may be under different roman numerals (Michael Wade (XVI)) or formats of your name (Michael John Wade). This will be a routine process if needed.

By the way, how did you send me an e-mail? I didn't think there was any way to do that through this board (and I don't think I've received any e-mail from you yet).

Good luck!

Dear Champion, Yes progress has definitely been made! Thanks again. Incidentally, the Canadian Michael Wade's Wikipedia page has been corrected with all my credits removed and they have put in some additional information about him unrelated to the film business. I'm sure his family will be happier with it. They are now deciding whether to give me a page.
I sent you an email simply by replying to the email I received from IMDb on  noreply.imdb@get satisfaction.com  It was headed IMDb.com and only when I looked it up just now did I see the no reply bit!!! Something is out of sync there...... And the plot thickens because I noticed and read your reply just now on my email inbox. Curiouser and curiouser!
I look forward to further developments and I'm very grateful to you. MW.

Michael: Most likely you've set up your notifications here on Get Satisfaction with the instruction:
"Send me email at my primary email address about new replies on topics I have posted, replied to, or followed"

Hence, you would get an e-mail whenever I (or anyone else) respond to you on this board.

On the other hand, I don't have any notifications selected from Get Satisfaction. Everything I respond to here is from viewing it on the Get Satisfaction message boards, not by getting an e-mail.

To adjust your notification settings, go to your profile page (https://getsatisfaction.com/people/michael_wade_7617161). You should see near the top of the page a link titled "Email & Notifications". Click on that. The next screen will show your designated e-mail address(es) with checkboxes below for you to indicate what kinds of e-mails you want to receive.

(I don't recommend checking too many boxes there; otherwise your e-mail will be flooded with notices, many of which will not be relevant to you. As I stated above, I don't have any of the boxes checked.)

Champion, Sorry me again..... I thought you might like to know that I've just had a long reply from a person called Bearcat at Wikipedia. He told me he has been liaising with IMDb on this, though he didn't mention you personally. He is aware of some of the changes that have been made and I told him I'm in touch with you. He also is very keen to help. Michael Wade. ~~~~

Michael: I see that you have been dealing with the same issues regarding a Wikipedia page that combined the Canadian actor with yourself, and fortunately that is being resolved. I hadn't known about the Wikipedia situation until you just mentioned it now. (Actually, I see that you mentioned the Wikipedia page a couple of hours ago in this thread, but for some reason I skipped over the reference to Wikipedia and thought you were still referring to IMDb.)

I do participate in Wikipedia, but I'm not familiar with Wikipedia user Bearcat so there's no reason he would have mentioned me.

Dear Champion, As you said, IMDb appear to be preparing to give me the Michael Wade (I) page, though there is still a mistake on it. I don't know which Michael Wade worked in or on The Signal, but it wasn't me. I realise Christmas is nearly upon us, but in the last week or so things seem to have come to a halt. Perhaps it takes longer, and this message is as much to make sure my line to you hasn't gone dead. But if they are going to give me that page I'm ready to send them a full list of my credits. In the meantime, Happy Christmas. Sincerely, Michael Wade.

Michael: Unfortunately the staff has not yet responded to this thread, but I am hopeful that they will do so eventually.

Hi Michael -

Have you already submitted the credit correction for "The Signal"?  If so, can you post the submission reference number here so our staff can take a look.

Otherwise, if not, please submit the credit correction (requesting that the credit be moved to a separate "Michael Wade") through our online Update form.

Hi Michelle. Thanks for your message. I'm sorry but I'm not good with computers, so when I first tried to sort out this conflation I clicked on Edit Page and got the Online Update Form, but spent hours going round in circles and being forced to start again! So no, I haven't submitted a credit correction for "The Signal" yet. It seems you have given me Michael Wade (I) and it now has more of my work than before, for which many thanks. But there are still some missing credits and the page still conflates me with the other Michael Wade as some of his credits are still listed, so we're not out of the woods yet! Would it be possible to give you a full list of my credits and also what needs to be transferred to his page via these messages? Otherwise I'm back to square one! Happy new year. Sincerely, Michael Wade.

Michael: I take it from Michelle's response above that they are waiting for you to submit whatever additional credits or corrections you need to submit.

So, looking at your page for Michael Wade (I), I take it that you need to have the following credits taken off:

The Signal (2007) as Struggling Person/Hallway Body
I'm Disappearing (2004) as Old Man
Misery Harbour (1999) as Stoker
Secret Nation (1992) as Lester Vokey
The Boys of St. Vincent (1992) (TV) as Brother MacLaverty
John and the Missus (1987) as Sid Peddigrew
The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood (1986) as RBC News Desk
The Danger Tree (1997) (TV) (voice)

None of the above are yours, correct?

We can be reasonably sure that the credits for Misery Harbour, Secret Nation, The Boys of St. Vincent, John and the Missus, The Adventure of Faustus Bidgood, and The Danger Tree belong to Michael Wade (V), the Canadian actor who died in 2004, because those credits already appear on his page. (Those credits have been mistakenly given to both you and him.) Does that correspond to your understanding?

So that leaves only The Signal and I'm Disappearing in doubt. If they aren't yours, and you don't know that they belong to Michael Wade (V), we can get them reassigned to yet a new Michael Wade with a different roman numeral.

Once you confirm what I've stated here, either I or someone else will provide you with instructions as to how to fix these credits.

Hello again Champion. Thanks for your message. All the credits you listed in it are definitely not mine, you are absolutely right. I also agree that most of them are the Canadian's. So I await instructions as to how to include my still missing credits. I do appreciate your help. Michael.

MIchael: I believe that an IMDb staffer once said that it was easier for them to combine two entries for the same person into one, than to split one entry into two separate people. So at this stage I am focused on getting the wrong credits off your page. Once we get those cleared off, we can then work on getting your additional credits onto your page.

To do this, go to your name page for Michael Wade (I) at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905482/ and click "Edit page".

On the next screen, on the Actor Credits line, select "Correct/Delete". Scroll down and click "Continue".

On the next screen, select "Correct" in the menu to the left of each of the credits that are not yours. Also, in the gray bar below all the credits, there will be a checkbox labeled "Show name?". Check that box. Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, you will see that each of the credits you need to correct is editable. For I'm Disappearing and The Signal, just delete the roman numeral after the name so it will say:
Wade, Michael

For all the other credits which we believe belong to the Canadian, change the roman numeral so the name will say:
Wade, Michael (V)

Also, each time you see a box labeled "provide an explanation to assist in processing this change", check that box. Click "Check these updates".

On the next screen, there will be an Explanation box for each credit. For I'm Disappearing and The Signal, provide an explanation such as the following: "I am Michael Wade (I), but I am not the Michael Wade who played this role. I do not know which of the other people named Michael Wade this credit should belong to." For those two credits, there will be a warning featuring a long list of names. In each case, select the option at the end that says, "I don't know - submit it as 'Wade, Michael' anyway".

For the credits being assigned to Michael Wade (V), enter an explanation such as the following: "I am Michael Wade (I), but I am not the Michael Wade who played this role. As far as I know, it was played by the late Canadian actor Michael Wade (V). In fact, this credit is currently listed on IMDb on Michael Wade (V)'s page as well as on mine. It should be listed only on the page of Michael Wade (V), not Michael Wade (I)." Provide the same explanation for each credit you are seeking to reassign to Michael Wade (V).

Also, if you get a warning that says, "Please confirm this person received a major credit on this title. An order number of 1, 2 or 3 indicates this person was billed in that position in the on screen credits. ..." then check the box marked "Warning understood, go ahead anyway."

Click "Re-check these updates".

On the next screen, your corrections should appear with green backgrounds, and you should be able to click "Submit these updates".

Allow a few days for these corrections to go through. Once these credits are moved off your page, we can then proceed to bring your other credits onto your page.

Good luck!

Champion, to misquote only slightly Colonel Pickering and Professor Higgins in My fair Lady, "I DID IT! But give credit where it's due, a lot of the glory goes to you!" I'm feeling so flushed with success at my new found computer skills that I might set up a computer consultancy! At the risk of sounding like a parrot, many thanks again! Michael Wade.

Dear Champion, I was about to write to you to say that there has not been much change since you kindly showed me how to fill in the forms, which I did on December 30th and I'm sure I made no mistakes. I decided to check on IMDb before writing to you and to my surprise things seem to have taken a frustrating backward step. You may remember it appeared that they had allotted Michael Wade (I) to me and Michael Wade (V) to the deceased Canadian actor. They had also put in more of my work, though not yet all, but it was still conflated with his work, and the point of filling in the forms was to remove his credits from mine. Now Michael Wade (I) has reverted to the Canadian and again has credits relating to both of us, and Michael Wade (V) no longer exists! Please can you help? Sincerely, Michael Wade.
