Clearer "Version of" connections

I find the current appearance of "Version of" movie connections a little messy and buggy. With the new system of adding complex connections, the "reason" field is no longer directly editable by users. When it was, sometimes the connection would be added but the reason would remain blank (which wasn't supposed to be possible since the reason was mandatory information). Sometimes the reason is visible on one title but on another in the same complex connection it's not there.

Take a look at the Version of connections for Superman, which lists all titles based on the same source material. The reason should be the same for all titles in the same connection, so displaying it underneath each title in the list is unnecessary and makes the list much bigger.

It's also impossible to add multiple Version of webs for one title.

I think it would be clearer and neater, if each Version of web had one unified description (e.g. Based on "The Hobbit" by J. R. R. Tolkein) at the top of the Version of section. This description could contain links to names (J. R. R. Tolkein, for instance), like the current reasons technically can. It would then be possible to display multiple Version of webs for the same title without confusion, and since only staff can add them now, you don't have to worry about users doing it wrong.

Also, there should be a standardised way of writing the description. "Based on..." seems like a good pick, since that's what Version of connections are for (based on source material or based on a foreign TV format).

Hello Matt,
Saying Based on "Action Comics" shouldn't really be used as a Version Of. It's more like "Based On" as I think you are saying. The "Version Of" should only be used when a title is another version of an earlier title.

If a title is based on a previous title, it would be a remake, which is a different type of movie connection. "Version of" is for titles based on the same source material, such as a book or play or, in the case of Superman, Action Comics.

The guide describes it as: "the title is another version of a play/novel/etc., i.e. not originally written for the screen. For a TV series, it is a version of a series from, usually, another country"

Steve Crook, Matt is right: version usually is a connection for other adaptations of the same source material (eg. version section in Dracula). It was very common for that matter before the introduction of character pages and now that character pages were abolished a slight problem arises that they are not as useful anymore as many such version connections were removed for some reason or not added in the first place because people stopped caring midway through and thought character pages were enough.
